The Dashihu Scenic Area of Lüshan National Forest Park is located on the western side of Mount Yiwulu, within Nianpangou Village, Waziyu Town, Yixian County, covering a touring area of 305 hectares. The scenic area boasts majestic and spectacular natural landscapes, making it a rare mountain-water wonder in the arid region of western Liaoning, as well as a renowned Buddhist sacred site in northwestern Liaoning.

The Flying Dragon Waterfall is the iconic landscape of the Dashihu Scenic Area. The peak of the waterfall stands at an elevation of 829 meters, making it the second highest peak of Mount Lüshan. Thanks to the dense forest vegetation at the upper part and a wide catchment area, its water source flows year-round. With a drop of about 62.5 meters and a width of 5 meters, it is the largest waterfall in western Liaoning. During the rainy season in midsummer, the waterfall cascades down the steep cliffs like a silver curtain, with water droplets splashing and a thunderous roar. Dashihu Lake itself is formed by three unique alpine lakes (Tianhu, Xuanhu, and Dihu) connected together. Other major natural attractions include Shuanglong Ridge, Divine Monkey Peeking at Fruit, Dragon Horse Peak, Lotus Peak, and over 30 more sites.

The Shuanglong Temple was first built during the Ming Dynasty, flourished as a center of Buddhist activity with many monks and devotees, and has now been restored. The scenic area also preserves historical relics such as a pagoda forest, stone tablets, and Shuanglong stone carvings. Many beautiful legends are still passed down, giving the site a unique historical and cultural significance.

The Dashihu Scenic Area boasts rich and diverse biological resources. It is home to the “naturally occurring Korean pine forest unique to East Asia” and retains the “most intact existing mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest of the North China plant flora.” There are 77 species of key protected animals, including rare birds such as the black stork, red-crowned crane, swan, and mandarin duck. Serving as a “gene pool” of species in western Liaoning, the area’s lush forests, well-preserved vegetation, and biodiversity make the Dashihu Scenic Area an ideal destination for sightseeing, summer retreats, forest exploration, and scientific research.
