Former Site of the Yokohama Specie Bank

The former site of the Yokohama Specie Bank is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The former site of the Yokohama Specie Bank is located in the Third Floor Community of Batiandi Subdistrict Office, Zhanqian District, and is currently used by the Liaohé Branch of Bank of Communications Yingkou Branch.

The former site of the Yokohama Specie Bank is located to the north of the Yingkou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and faces the former site of the Niuzhuang Post Office to the south. This building was constructed in the 32nd year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1906) and is now well preserved. It is a two-story building with a herringbone iron roof, topped with a zero-style design, featuring Western architectural style. The building covers an area of 403 square meters and stands 15 meters tall. The walls are made of red bricks and white stone in the Arata Endo style, topped with a mansard roof, with corner domes that stand out — a meticulously designed and unique example of modern architecture. At the time, the bank was jointly operated by Chinese and Japanese interests but was actually controlled by the Japanese. In 1914, the head office of the Yokohama Specie Bank moved from Yingkou to Dalian, and Yingkou became a branch. In 1987, it came under the use of Bank of Communications. In 2009, Bank of Communications carried out restoration work on the original building.

In 1990, the Yingkou Municipal People’s Government designated the former site of the Yokohama Specie Bank as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit. In 2003, the People’s Government of Liaoning Province (Liaozhengfa [2003] No. 12) listed it as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit. The scope of cultural relic protection and construction control zones announced by the People’s Government of Liaoning Province (Liaozhengfa [2004] No. 34) are as follows: the protection zone extends 3 meters east, 5 meters south, 5 meters west, and 2 meters north of the outer base of the building’s exterior walls; the area within 20 meters outside the protection zone is designated as a Class II construction control zone, and the area within 25 meters outside the Class II control zone is designated as a Class III construction control zone.
