Astonishing Road Collapse in Front of JR Hakata Station – Travelers to Japan Beware

At around 5 a.m. on November 8, a road collapsed near JR Hakata Station in Fukuoka, Japan, leaving a massive crater roughly estimated at 30 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and about 15 meters deep, with the affected area continuing to spread. Police have urgently evacuated nearby residents. The collapse also caused power outages for approximately 170 households in the vicinity, and gas pipelines were severed.

Currently, various construction units are carrying out emergency repairs. Travelers visiting or staying around Fukuoka in Kyushu are advised to stay vigilant about their safety.

Fukuoka City Transportation Bureau has admitted responsibility and apologized for the road collapse caused by the construction of the Nanakuma Subway Line. The incident not only triggered power outages but also disrupted access for residents and commuters around the large crater, drawing particular attention to the 7-Eleven store situated nearby. Following round-the-clock emergency efforts by Japanese authorities, the huge hole was completely filled and repaired by November 10. All related utility lines were restored within a day, with 148,000 metric tons of cement poured in to reinstate water, electricity, and gas supplies. It was also announced that traffic would resume on November 14, gradually restoring normal operations at JR Hakata Station. The efficiency of the recovery work has drawn widespread praise.
