With the lavender blooms in Furano, Hokkaido, in July, beautiful wildflowers such as lilies, poppies, lupines, and cosmos also begin to bloom along the roadsides of Biei and Furano. Visiting Furano at this time not only offers summer-exclusive lavender fields but also attractions like the Forest Fairy Terrace and Cheese Factory, waiting for visitors to experience the local lifestyle.

Kamifurano FLOWER LAND

Set against the backdrop of Mount Tokachi, Kamifurano FLOWER LAND boasts an excellent view of the city. The vast flower fields stretching along the slopes cover a total area of 15 hectares. From June, flowers such as lupines, lavender, poppies, dahlias, sunflowers, marguerites, and cosmos bloom in rotation. There’s also a lavender field where you can hand-pick the flowers yourself, plus experiences like pressed flower crafting.

Address: 27 North, 5-West, Kamifurano-cho
Transportation: Accessible via the Furano Flower & Biei Hill Sightseeing Bus (Furano Hana & Biei Oku Kosu) from JR Furano Station, or by car approximately 10 minutes from JR Kamifurano Station

Tomita Farm

Tomita Farm is the most famous flower farm in Furano and the mastermind behind cementing the impression of “Furano = Lavender” in everyone’s mind. The vast grounds are roughly divided into five major flower zones, among which the romantic purple lavender fields and the colorful flower fields resembling gorgeous carpets are the most iconic sights. The farm also offers a rich variety of original products such as dried flowers, perfumes, and essential oils. Don’t miss their most famous purple lavender soft serve ice cream!

Address: 15 North, Kita, Nakafurano-cho
Transportation: About 3 minutes by car or 25 minutes on foot from JR Nakafurano Station. Alternatively, take the seasonal (June–October) Furano Biei Norokko Train from JR and get off at Lavender Field Station, then walk 7 minutes.

Forest Fairy Terrace

Legend has it that 15-centimeter-tall forest fairies live in the woods of Furano. The Forest Fairy Terrace, located in the woods next to New Furano Prince Hotel, even has a cute sign that says, “Please don’t make noise so as not to disturb the forest fairies.” The woods contain 17 wooden cabins, all selling handmade goods by Furano artisans—such as wooden carvings of owls and mini bands, glass ornaments with ice and snow themes, iron fox bottle openers, and candles shaped like wood or mushrooms—all exquisitely charming. In the evening, the whole area is lit up, adding to the atmosphere.

Address: Nakagoryo, Furano City
Transportation: About 10 minutes by car or bus from JR Furano Station, or take the Furano Bus Lavender (Rabendaa) and get off at the final stop, “New Furano Prince Hotel.”

popura farm Nakafurano

Nakafurano’s melon specialty shop popura farm launches an original dessert every summer called “Santa’s Beard,” which you’ll definitely want to try once you see it: juicy orange Hokkaido-grown melons filled with rich, creamy Hokkaido milk soft serve. It’s super Hokkaido-themed and incredibly delicious thanks to the carefully selected sweet and juicy melons. There are also glamorous variations like Christmas sundaes!

Address: 18 North, 1-East, Nakafurano-cho
Transportation: A 5-minute walk from JR Nishinakafurano Station, or about 5 minutes by car from JR Nakafurano Station
