chochoco Chocolate Boutique

The owner of chochoco has transformed their love for chocolate into the shop’s philosophy, using authentic Belgian chocolate and blending it appropriately with French chocolate to create rich, thick chocolate that is simply irresistible from the first bite. The shop’s products showcase the best of chocolate, such as melt-in-your-mouth raw chocolate, slightly smoky small truffles, hazelnut chocolates with a nutty aroma, small but rich brownies, or the “lava” that looks like a spewing volcano. The best-selling item is undoubtedly the shop’s brownie cake. Its exterior is a crispy thin shell roasted with sugar and chocolate, while the cake itself is dense and moist. With its stunning appearance and hearty texture, it has received rave reviews among online bloggers.

Mingsen Uji Matcha Boutique

Hidden within the green promenade opposite the art museum, Mingsen Uji Matcha Boutique feels like stepping into a traditional Japanese garden in Kyoto’s alleyways. A variety of Japanese tea ceremony bowls, utensils, iron kettles, and small jars of matcha vividly showcase the beauty of Japanese tea culture. The premium matcha used by Mingsen Uji is made from spring tea, which is shaded with thin gauze for 20 days before being harvested around mid-May. The tea leaves are air-cooled and dried, then deveined and stemmed to make thin leaves, and finally ground with a stone mill at 60 revolutions per minute to produce green powder with an average particle size of 3 microns. The shop’s most classic item is the Kyoto tea dessert, Yōji Azuki, a pastry made with genmaicha, matcha powder, and crushed mung bean paste, filled with a light-flavored red bean paste. It uses no oil and is solidified through freezing. The best time to enjoy it is ten minutes after leaving it at room temperature, when it tastes perfect and isn’t sticky. From matcha ice cream and agar jelly to soft serve, different types of matcha are used to deliver the best textures. For the soft serve, in order to avoid the granular texture of matcha affecting the smoothness, not only sub-premium matcha powder is used, but an additional step of heating in a bain-marie is specially added.

I’s Gelato Italian Ice Cream

Authentic Gelato Italian ice cream contains less than 8% milk fat and is a healthy treat. I’s Gelato Italian Ice Cream was founded by Teacher Hao Fu, who has promoted healthy eating in central Taiwan for many years. In addition to continuing the healthy concept of Italian gelato, it breaks away from the idea of simply topping ice cream with various ingredients. Instead, it uses ice cream as the base ingredient for dishes, and adds creative touches like rice crackers and sakura shrimp.

Hoshino Copper Roast

The original store of Hoshino Copper Roast is in Dali City, and its only branch in the Taichung city area is located on Gongyi Road. The founder of Hoshino went to the main store in Tokyo, Japan, to learn the craft and brought the most authentic copper roast back to Taichung, perfectly reinterpreting the original Japanese-style flavor. Every step of making copper roast is strictly controlled, with Hoshino demanding perfection and slow craftsmanship. Even the red bean filling is meticulously prepared. Imported Japanese red beans are simmered slowly over a day until the juice is reduced, resulting in a red bean filling with distinct grains and a soft, fluffy texture. It is paired with a dough made using aged Japanese sugar, giving the copper roast a particularly fragrant taste. There are four types of fillings: original, matcha, coffee, and cherry, among which the subtle tea-scented matcha flavor is the most popular.
