2017 New Taipei City Christmas Town kicks off – a fun and photogenic outing for the whole family

The annual New Taipei City Christmas Town held in Banqiao is one of the most anticipated year-end events. The “2017 New Taipei Christmas Town event” has been announced Up!

Event period: 39 consecutive days from November 24, 2017 to January 1, 2018
Event location: New Taipei City Civic Plaza and Banqiao Station Front Plaza

■ November 24 (Fri) 17:20–18:30: New Taipei City Civic Plaza
■ November 24 Light-up Ceremony: Station Front Plaza, Civic Plaza, and Wanping Park Light Zones
■ November 25 Snow Dance Light-up: Snowflakes will fall from the sky at Banqiao Station Front Plaza

1. Civic Magic Light Zone: New Taipei City Government Front Plaza (main light zone)
2. Wanping Cartoon Light Zone: PORORO appears at Wanping Park (PORORO Light Zone)
3. Station Front Shining Light Zone: Banqiao Station Front Plaza (brand-new light zone)

Transportation: Take the Bannan Line of the MRT to Banqiao Station

Main Light Show:Daily from 17:30 to 22:00, performances every half hour and on the hour.

New Taipei City’s Happy Christmas Town will officially light up and open on November 24 (Fri) with the “Christmas Opening Show.” This year, the surrounding Christmas light decorations have expanded from the previous areas of Civic Plaza and Wanping Park to include the front plaza of Banqiao Railway Station, making a total of three major light zones — the “City Hall Magic Light Zone,” the “Station Front Shining Light Zone,” and the “Wanping Cartoon Light Zone.”

This year’s newly created show, *Christmas Light Dance*, will grandly premiere at the Station Front Plaza. A romantic sky curtain woven with white and gold descending from the heavens, 12 dazzling computer-controlled spotlights in vivid colors, 8 container markets adorned with gorgeous lighting, along with an adorable Santa Bear-shaped stage and a magnificent Christmas tree combined with a spinning reindeer amusement ride, will twinkle and dance in sync with themed music to compose a spectacular Christmas Light Dance. The Station Front Plaza will instantly transform into the most dazzling and colorful Christmas wonderland.

On November 25 and 26, the highly anticipated family-friendly event “Children’s Carnival” will take place. Numerous beloved cartoon characters such as Pororo, Cheburashka, POLI, and Tayo will gather at Christmas Town to bring storytelling, joyful singing and dancing shows, balloon magic, and interactive gift-giving activities that children love. Don’t miss the meet-and-greet photo opportunities with the Santa Bear family and the Pororo family, ensuring wonderful Christmas memories with your favorite characters.

In addition, the ever-popular container market at Christmas Town will this year adopt a circus theme. Eighteen container shops and five free amusement rides — the “Royal Carousel,” “Snow White Flying Chairs,” “Spinning Reindeer Forest,” “Christmas Express,” and “Light-Speed Fighter Jets” — will make a dazzling debut, guaranteeing a fun-filled experience that visitors won’t want to end.

There are signs on the floor inside Banqiao Railway Station too.

They feature lions, elephants, and sea lions greeting everyone.

Aside from the “Christmas Market Huts and Circus Container Market,” there are also many adorable installations around.

This year’s New Taipei Happy Christmas Town covers a wide area and is very thoughtfully designed. I personally think it’s even better than last year. It’s perfect for dates or bringing kids along for a visit.

If you prefer to avoid the crowds or seek a quieter spot to enjoy the light displays, you can also head to the nearby Mega 50 Dining for end-of-year feast dishes. There are three restaurants: Moon View Tower (48F), Asia 49 Asian Cuisine & Lounge (49F), and the 50F Café Buffet (50F), all offering stunning views from above.
