Early buildings that still exude a strong sense of bygone eras

The "Anle Building," a filming location for the TV drama "The Summer Temple Fair," is a newly popular ruin attraction in Kaohsiung. With a history of over a century, it was built in the 20th year of the Republic of China, during the mid-period of Japanese rule. It was also the earliest and most prosperous market in the area. This spot combines an old-fashioned Japanese garden with Baroque-style architecture. Once quite splendid, it still retains a strong sense of its bygone era. The former prosperity has long faded, with old trees sprawling everywhere. The Kaohsiung City Cultural Affairs Bureau has plans to designate the site as a historic building.

A friendly reminder from us:&The second floor has been enclosed with metal sheeting—please be mindful of your safety during your visit.

Travel back in time to your childhood

The Chair Score is located in Dayi Park within Kaohsiung’s Pier-2 Art Center. It is an installation art structure created in 2016 by artist Yan Ming-Hong, who used old chairs from primary and secondary school students in Kaohsiung. Situated among the expansive green lawns and ancient trees of the Pier-2 Dayi warehouse area, the work is built around the concept of a circular cosmic space of memory and bodily behavior. This piece cleverly utilizes the characteristics of interwoven time, constructed with metal and old wooden chairs in shades of brown, white, and green. Entering the forest-like space, visitors traverse a maze-score made up of campus-memory chairs, as if traveling back in time to childhood.

In fact, the unassuming Guomao New Village is located in Zuoying, Kaohsiung. Upon closer exploration, you'll discover this unique high-density architectural design. Originally, one might think such honeycomb-style housing could only be found in densely populated Hong Kong. This old-style collective residence was built in the past to accommodate a large residential population, resulting in this distinctive naval dependents' village. Looking up from below, the concentric-circle community presents a rare and special aesthetic!
