Former Site of the Yingkou Branch of the Manchurian Bank

The former site of the Yingkou Branch of the Manchurian Bank is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The former site of the Yingkou Branch of the Manchurian Bank is located in Ping’an Community, Shengli Subdistrict Office, Xishi District. It was once used as the Xishi Branch of the Yingkou Industrial and Commercial Bank and is currently occupied by the Yingkou Bank.

In 1933, the puppet Manchukuo Central Bank decided to establish a Yingkou branch, and in 1934, it was designed by the Architectural Affairs Department of the Manchukuo Central Bank. The structure is reinforced concrete, with a facade using the Greek Doric column style—sturdy and robust—to convey the bank's solid creditworthiness. It served as the banking branch of the puppet Manchukuo in Yingkou. The front hall of the former site of the Yingkou Branch of the Manchurian Bank is a single-story building, while the rear east building is two stories. The single-story section functions as the business hall, about 13 meters high, with two rows of tall columns inside, creating a majestic and spectacular view. The two-story rear building matches the height of the front hall, and the total construction area is approximately 1,865 square meters.

In 1947, the Nationalist Party’s Provisional 58th Division was stationed in Yingkou, with its headquarters set up in the Manchurian Bank. On February 25, 1948, the division commander Wang Jiashan detained the Nationalist military and political leaders in Yingkou here and led his troops in a revolt, resulting in the third liberation of Yingkou.

In 1990, the Yingkou Municipal People’s Government designated the former site of the Yingkou Branch of the Manchurian Bank as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit. In 2003, the People’s Government of Liaoning Province (Liaozhengfa [2003] No. 12) announced it as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit. The scope of cultural relic protection and construction control zones announced by the People’s Government of Liaoning Province (Liaozhengfa [2004] No. 34) are as follows: within 5 meters outside the outer base of the building’s exterior walls is the protected area; within 15 meters outside the protected area is the Class II construction control zone, and within 30 meters outside the Class II construction control zone is the Class III construction control zone.
