The flowers are in full bloom—what an explosion of blossoms!

I was truly amazed to find such a beautiful cherry blossom path right by the river in downtown Taipei, without having to go all the way up to Yangmingshan.
On the afternoon of the first day of the lunar new year, just as hot as summer, I wore short sleeves and came strolling along the Neigouxi Cherry Blossom Trail to enjoy the spring.
After entering Lane 61, Kang Le Street, I found the Happy Life Park—a small neighborhood green space with play equipment for children. Looking toward the embankment, there was a striking row of pink cherry blossoms. It turns out these are the result of years of planting by local cherry blossom enthusiasts in Donghu Community.

Since every cherry blossom tree was in full bloom, I was stunned at first sight—they looked almost like fake prop trees.

The cherry blossom trees on Lane 61, Kang Le Street, are of the same variety as those on Lane 42, Ping Jing Street—the Somei Yoshino.
They usually bloom around the Lunar New Year, bursting forth in glorious clusters like strings of firecrackers.
They’re considered an auspicious and festive tree, and I never expected the Somei Yoshino to thrive so well at such a low-altitude urban location.

This also suggests that the Somei Yoshino can survive in flatland areas, and it’s likely to be widely planted in the future. I’m both happy and worried about this.
Cherry blossoms are ornamental plants that enhance urban beauty. In the future, Taipei may have scenes as stunning as Tokyo’s cherry blossom season. However, cherry blossom trees have a sparse canopy and offer little shade, and their contribution to air purification in the city is limited.
I never thought seeing a whole grove of cherry blossoms in downtown Taipei would move me so much or fill me with such excitement. Without spending a fortune or getting stuck in traffic, I could just sit on the riverside grass and enjoy the blossoms freely. The people of Donghu are truly fortunate.
The Year of the Horse’s Spring Festival is worth treasuring—it was the clearest and hottest one ever. There were no cold fronts, no rain, just blue skies every day, perfect for going out to admire the cherry blossoms. I’ll definitely miss it.
I lazily basked in the sun by the park, watching the sea of spring blossoms and the endless stream of visitors. A reunion dinner is only a reunion because it’s shared, and it’s only a real New Year celebration when it’s lively and joyous.

How long is this cherry blossom path? It’s less than 200 meters long, and it takes about five minutes to walk from one end to the other. It’s roughly the same short length as the cherry blossoms on Lane 42, Ping Jing Street.
In the future, when these cherry trees grow bigger, this area will surely become the most beautiful riverside spot in Taipei every spring.
Since the trees are still young, the blossoms are very close to people, making it easy to take close-up photos. But be careful when walking or taking pictures among the trees—don’t accidentally break branches or knock off the flowers. Leave some blooms for other visitors to enjoy.
Especially those aunties walking through the bushes with umbrellas—I have no idea how inconsiderate they’re being. Are you “umbrella-flower-bashing” out there?
During the Lunar New Year holiday, why not come to Donghu for a stroll and cherry blossom viewing? You won’t have to deal with the traffic jams on Yude Boulevard, and although you won’t get the mountain views of Yangmingshan, at least it’s peaceful here.
