Yingkou Western Mosque

Yingkou Western Mosque is a cultural relic protection unit of Yingkou City.

Yingkou Western Mosque is located at No. 12, Mosque Lane, Ping’an Street, Ping’an Community, Shengli Subdistrict Office, Xishi District. It features Islamic architectural style.

The entire structure faces east, with the main entrance gatehouse on the east, the prayer hall to the west, the moon-sighting tower further west, bathing facilities and other structures to the south, and the funeral room to the north. The mosque was first built in the fifth year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1866), initiated by Ma Kui and others, who were the commanders of the Tianjin Foreign Rifle Team stationed in Yingkou, through fundraising efforts. During the Guangxu reign, it was expanded with funding from Zuo Baogui and others, who also personally inscribed the couplets, established a scripture school, and provided cultural education and religious instruction to Hui youth in the city. In 1905, five rear hall rooms were built along with an antique-glazed tile pavilion. From the 1920s to the 1930s, three more expansions and renovations were carried out. In 1980, the prayer hall and front hall were renovated, and the mosque was listed as one of the one hundred famous mosques in China.

In 2012, the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2012] No. 173) designated Yingkou Western Mosque as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit. The scope of cultural relic protection and construction control zone announced by the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2013] No. 185) is: the area within the mosque’s walls and extending 5 meters outward around the perimeter is the protected zone; the area extending east to the subgrade of Jinghu West Road, north to the boundary wall of the Hui Nationality Primary School, 10 meters south, and 10 meters west outside the protected zone is classified as Class I construction control zone.
