Evergreen Airlines has added its 16th and 17th new 777-300ER aircraft. A delivery ceremony was held in Seattle at midnight (Taiwan time) today (22nd). The ceremony was jointly presided over by Evergreen Airlines Chairman Chang Kuo-wei and Mr. Ihssane Mounir, Senior Vice President of Boeing Commercial Airplanes for Northeast Asia. Both aircraft took off from Paine Field Airport at 4:00 PM local time.
The 2014 De Yuan Pi Dutch Village Happy Children's Fun Festival opened with great fanfare last weekend, drawing over ten thousand visitors over the Saturday and Sunday. The event organizer, the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau, set up free experience zones at the venue including traditional children’s games, an inflatable game zone, and De Yuan Pi painting activities, where participating children had a blast.
After trying so many snacks in Kaohsiung, we rarely come across shops that sell winter melon rice noodles. This one is located at Xifeng Night Market, right across from Zhangji Pork Ribs Crispy. It has no signboard or name, looking quite unremarkable. What caught our attention was that they serve winter melon rice noodles — as someone who always enjoys eating rice noodles, I really wanted to give it a try.
Taiwan’s largest summer travel expo, the “Taipei International Tourism Expo,” sees tourism representative offices from various countries pulling out all the stops. The Korea Tourism Organization Taipei Branch has invited two world-renowned Korean performance troupes this year — the “Wedding Music Show” and the “Typhoon Dance Show” — to perform in Taiwan. Both of these famous Korean shows will be staged daily during the expo.
The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation issued a notice at 23:00 on May 23 regarding the bus accident involving a 26-member tour group (May 22–25) from Five Blessings Travel Agency in Mainland China on May 23. Concerning the search and rescue status of the 7 missing tourists, the original report stated that “they showed no signs of life upon arrival at the hospital.” After contacting Mr. Lin, Director of the Fujian Taiwan Affairs Office, and Mr. Chen, Deputy Director of the Zhangzhou Taiwan Affairs Office, it was confirmed that the bus had been lifted, with only 2 bodies recovered and the other 5 still missing.

EVA Air’s 16th and 17th new 777-300ER aircraft, with registration numbers B-16718 and B-16719, were handed over at a delivery ceremony held at 9:00 a.m. on the 21st local time in Seattle at Boeing’s Delivery Center in Seattle. A tour group organized by Hsinchu Wufu Travel Agency departed from Taiwan on May 22 to visit the scenic sights of Xiamen. However, at around noon on May 23, due to rainy and slippery road conditions, their tour bus plunged into the Jiulong River. After an afternoon of search and rescue efforts, the seven missing group members — including Lin Taiping (68, male) and Tong Yueying (49, female) — were all found around 6:00 p.m. inside the submerged vehicle. All were confirmed to have no signs of life.

At 12:30 PM today in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, China, a tour bus carrying a group of Taiwanese tourists organized by Hsinchu-based Wufu Travel Agency unfortunately fell into the Jiulong River. The bus was carrying 26 passengers, 19 of whom have been rescued and sent to the hospital for emergency treatment. Among the seven missing passengers, according to reports from Fujian Broadcasting News, two bodies without vital signs have been recovered, but their identities are still to be confirmed. Search and rescue efforts for the other missing individuals are ongoing.
The number of YouBike stations in New Taipei City continues to expand. Following the rollout in Xindian and Xizhi, the densely populated districts of Sanchong and Luzhou — which together have a population of hundreds of thousands — are also set to get stations along their MRT lines. In September, three stations will be installed in Sanchong, while future plans for Luzhou include possible setups near Luzhou MRT Station and St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School MRT Station, though the timing remains undecided.
At 12:30 noon today (May 23), on the section of Kengkou Road in Xinxu Town, Hua’an County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, China, a tour bus operated by Hsinchu-based HowToTrip-affiliated Wufu Travel Agency carrying a Taiwanese tour group was involved in an accident. The vehicle unfortunately fell into the Jiulong River. There were 26 passengers on board; 19 have been rescued and sent to hospital for emergency treatment, while 7 remain missing.
