Shirui Charming Town Scenic Area in Eerguna City

The Shirui Charming Town Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Shirui Charming Town Scenic Area is situated on the northern frontier of the country, at the northern foot of the Greater Khingan Mountains, in the northwest part of Eerguna City. It faces Russia across the Erguna River. Covering a total area of 4,351 square kilometers, the border line stretches 136.4 kilometers, with a maximum north-south span of 185 kilometers and an east-west width of about 115 kilometers. It is 161 kilometers away from Labudalin Town. Shirui is the most modern border town, where the houses of Sino-Russian descendants have been artistically modified to support family tourism. This allows visitors to experience the folk customs of ethnic minorities as well as the unique and profound cultural heritage of the Russian ethnic group.

“Blue skies, green grass, birch forests, and the mysterious Agate Grassland. The river, sometimes gentle and sometimes rapid, nurtures Asia’s most beautiful wetlands and the hardworking people who live here. The fertile riverbanks gave rise to the great Mongolian nation, and the warm wooden houses are now home to the descendants of Sino-Russian families. The wisdom of yellow-skinned men and the passion of blue-eyed women have created Shirui, a model of harmonious coexistence among China’s multi-ethnic groups.” This is the award citation from CCTV’s 2005 “Charming Towns of China.” The Shirui Russian Ethnic Township won one of the top ten most charming towns in China in 2005 for its unique folk customs, rich cultural heritage, and beautiful natural scenery.

Currently, family tourism in Shirui has become a distinctive tourism product in Hulunbuir. Around 100 families in the scenic area offer family tourism experiences, allowing both domestic and international visitors to enjoy a taste of foreign culture without leaving the country.
