Huang Temple is located on Huangsi Street outside Andingmen in Beijing. Since there are two temples — one to the east and one to the west — it is also called Shuang Huang Temple (Double Huang Temple). The East Huang Temple, also known as Pujing Chanlin, was built in the eighth year of the Shunzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty for the Tibetan Buddhist leader Tenzin Dondrub Gyatso. The West Huang Temple was constructed in the ninth year of the Shunzhi reign. The Fifth Dalai Lama stayed here during his visit to Beijing before returning to Tibet. In the forty-fifth year of the Qianlong reign, the Sixth Panchen Lama came to Beijing, and the West Huang Temple became his meditation residence.
