The Baotou Science and Technology Youth Palace is a patriotic education base.

The Baotou Science and Technology Youth Palace (formerly the Qingshan District Youth Palace) is located at No. 18 Ziyou Road, Qingshan District, Baotou City, with a total construction area of nearly 20,000 square meters. The main building has six floors, with partial seven-floor sections, and is surrounded by an open park. The total investment exceeded 85 million yuan. The Youth Palace currently has over 8,500 students and 240 faculty members, and has become one of the finest youth activity centers in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and even the western region of China in terms of environment, facilities, equipment, and activities. It is also the first youth palace in China with a focus on science and technology.

Facility Introduction

The Baotou Science and Technology Youth Palace (formerly the Qingshan District Youth Palace) is one of the main youth activity centers in Baotou City, serving as a comprehensive extracurricular educational venue for children alongside the Baotou Youth Palace. The Baotou Science and Technology Youth Palace has a total construction area of nearly 20,000 square meters, with a main building of six floors and partial seven-floor sections, surrounded by an open park. The total investment exceeded 85 million yuan.

The Youth Palace currently has over 8,500 students and 240 faculty members, and has become one of the finest youth activity centers in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and even the western region of China in terms of environment, facilities, equipment, and activities. It is also the first youth palace in China with a focus on science and technology.

In recent years, the Science and Technology Youth Palace has fully leveraged its role as a key platform for extracurricular education. To date, the Youth Palace has organized a wide variety of colorful activities for over 1 million children and provided interest training and social practice opportunities for more than 300,000 primary and secondary school students in Baotou. Since its completion, it has organized and hosted over 1,000 large-scale events, including the National Youth Aerospace Model Championship, the China Association of Children's Science Instructors Science Education Training Conference, exhibitions featuring materials from past Teachers' Day celebrations, images and manuscripts from renowned professors, education experts, and outstanding teachers across the country, as well as the Second Amateur Go Dan Grade Competition of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. At the same time, the Youth Palace has enhanced teaching quality and produced a series of high-quality programs for children, focusing on ideological and moral education, as well as the cultivation of innovation and practical skills. The instrumental ensemble "Fiery China" and the dance "Sunshine Imagination" made their debut on the stage of the 2009 Baotou Spring Festival Gala; the dances "Call of the Grassland" and "Eco Baby" were performed at the 2009 Baotou TV Children's Day Gala; the dance "Dad, Mom, Listen to Me" was featured in the 2010 CCTV "Growing Up in the Sunshine" Children's Day TV gala; the dance "Songs of Deer City" was recorded for the 2010 Baotou Spring Festival TV Gala; "The Heroic Little Sisters of the Grassland" was recorded for the 2010 Baotou Spring Festival Gala; the instrumental ensemble "Brave Voyage" was performed on the 2011 CCTV Children's Spring Festival Gala, while the dance "Drum Singing," the children’s choir pieces "Little Boy" and "Little Witch," and the martial arts performance "Dance Miracle" were featured in the 2011 Baotou TV First Children's Spring Festival Gala. The dance teacher Liu Tingting's performance "Sacred Lamp" was part of the 2011 Inner Mongolia TV Lantern Festival Gala. These creatively choreographed performances demonstrated a high level of artistry, fully leveraging the Youth Palace’s role as a key platform for extracurricular education and promoting the all-round healthy growth of young people.

Organizational Structure

The organizational structure of the Baotou Science and Technology Youth Palace consists of four departments, one office, and seven centers: the Office, Activity Department, Teaching and Research Department, Training Department, Planning, Finance and Property Department; as well as the Preschool, Science and Technology, Fine Arts, English, Piano, Music and Dance, and Comprehensive Centers. These departments and centers are interconnected, mutually reinforcing, and integrated into one cohesive system. The management model of four departments, one office, and seven centers has gradually matured.

History

The predecessor of the Baotou Science and Technology Youth Palace was the Qingshan District Children’s Home, established in 1963. In October 1992, it relocated to the east side of Nalin Commercial Building on Wenhua Road No. 61, and the “Qingshan District Children’s Home” was officially renamed the Qingshan District Youth Palace. In April 2006, the Baotou Municipal Education Bureau and the Baotou Staffing Office issued a document officially renaming the Qingshan District Youth Palace as the Baotou Science and Technology Youth Palace, designating it as a public institution with differential funding at the division level.

Starting from 2000, the Youth Palace entered a period of rapid development, with continuously expanding activities and increasingly significant social impact. In line with the Qingshan District’s "Two Belts and One Zone" economic development strategy and the long-term needs of the Youth Palace, the Qingshan District Party Committee and District Government decided to expand and rebuild the Qingshan District Youth Palace.

In December 2005, the Qingshan District Youth Palace temporarily relocated from No. 61 Wenhua Road to several schools, including the Diantsanjian Middle School, Wenxue Road Primary School, Hadadao Primary School, Guangrong Road Primary School, and Jinlin Garden School, operating in a dispersed manner. In early July 2008, it officially moved to its new address at No. 18 Ziyou Road.

During the 2008 summer vacation, Hu Ercha, former Mayor of Baotou and current Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region People’s Congress, personally handed over the Youth Palace’s golden key to Young Pioneers, officially opening the doors of the Science and Technology Youth Palace to 60,000 children in Qingshan District.

Programs Offered

The Youth Palace currently offers 26 programs, including science and technology, piano, electronic keyboard, fine arts, dance, accordion, jazz drum, violin, saxophone, guzheng, pipa, erhu, vocal music, flute, hosting, English, martial arts, table tennis, and Latin dance. There are over 400 interest activity groups, with a regular enrollment of more than 4,000 students, forming a comprehensive educational system that integrates training and activities.
