The cool autumn breeze at night brings refreshing relief, and the upcoming Mid-Autumn long holiday is bound to bring heavy traffic congestion across the island. But why travel far when you can enjoy a peaceful moon viewing experience? The Taipei City Department of Public Works' Parks Office has specially recommended 30 ideal spots for moon gazing, giving those who wish to avoid the crowds this year more convenient options to reunite with loved ones under the full moon.

According to the Parks Office, the 30 parks each have their own unique charm. Yangmingshan Park, rich in forested hills and natural beauty, offers a viewing platform for stargazing and moon appreciation. Nangang Park and Dahu Park provide expansive views, with green mountains, shimmering waters, egrets soaring overhead, and reflections of bridges in the water. Bihu Park boasts hiking trails around the lake, while Tianmu Park nestles beside Huangxi Stream and flows with fresh spring water. Zhishan Park offers elevated views for moon gazing and distant sights of Taipei’s night skyline. Youth Park and Da’an Forest Park feature vast grassy areas where you can listen to the sounds of wind, frogs, and insects.

For safety reasons, barbecuing and fireworks are not allowed in the parks, but their proximity to urban areas and rare tranquil settings more than make up for it. Bringing mooncakes and tea for a moon-viewing picnic is also a great idea.
