Zhaojun Island

Located about 30 kilometers south of Baotou city proper, Zhaojun Island faces the Yellow River to the south and looks across to Zhaojun’s Tomb in Yimeng on the opposite bank. It is surrounded by tributaries of the Yellow River on its other three sides, hence the name “Zhaojun Island.” Stretching 4 kilometers from east to west and 2.5 kilometers from north to south, the island is home to 25 species of xerophytic and desert plants, as well as around 25 species of birds. The island boasts a beautiful natural environment. Upon ascending the observation tower, visitors can gaze southward at the vast expanse of the Yellow River and northward at dense reed marshes. Boating through the area offers a taste of the water town scenery. The island features a statue of Zhaojun holding a pipa, as well as unique “three-leaf trees” for visitors to admire. The Mongolian yurt restaurant on the island serves not only ethnic cuisine but also fresh Yellow River carp.

Zhaojun Island Tourist Area is located about 4 kilometers southwest of Quanbatu Township Government in the suburbs of Baotou City. It is a newly developed tourist attraction funded and built by the Quanbatu Township Government. The island features natural waterways such as Crescent Bay, Dragon Gate Bay, and Nameless Stream, as well as 8 square kilometers of natural grassland. Year-round, both winter and summer migratory birds inhabit and breed here, along with animals such as red foxes, Mongolian hares, muskrats, and the nationally protected Class II rare bird, the whooper swan.

To facilitate sightseeing and vacationing for tourists on the island, the tourist area offers service facilities such as motorboats, yachts, ferries, Mongolian yurts, and ethnic restaurants. After enjoying the beautiful natural scenery, visitors can also engage in recreational activities such as swimming, horseback riding, and fishing.
