Located on the northern bank of the Bazhang River, Chiayi Luchao features flat terrain within the Jianan Plain and boasts fertile soil. Besides rice, the yellow okra grown here accounts for about 60% of Taiwan’s total production. Moreover, its watermelon breeding and grafting techniques lead the nation, making it a hub for the wholesale trading of watermelon seedlings and the breeding center of watermelons in Taiwan.
Visiting Chiayi Luchao allows you to connect with local life through hands-on experiences such as picking fresh okra at Wenpin Fruit and Vegetable Farm, crafting herbal lotion at Aimuzhu Plant Extraction Workshop, DIY pitaya vinegar at Hexing Farm, touring Yan Shuai Orchid Garden, and learning about desert rose grafting at Xinhe Gardening—making your trip truly unique and locally immersive.
Yellow okra is a summer crop, typically sown between March and April, and can be harvested until around September to October. Each flower blooms and bears fruit roughly once a week. When selecting yellow okra fruits, those that are 10 to 12

Mr. Lin Wensheng originally contracted water and electricity engineering work in the construction industry, but returned to his hometown to care for his mother after she was injured in a car accident. On his wife’s suggestion, he took over his father’s farming work—growing rice and okra.
One of the biggest concerns in Taiwan's agriculture is that when the price of a particular crop is relatively high, it often leads to overproduction. How to balance production with creativity by processing yellow okra into tea bags, and incorporating them into smoothies, coffee, and other creative ideas, has become a new opportunity.

Xinhe Gardening
Director Zhang Yongming originally worked in early childhood education. In his later years, he developed a passion for succulents—particularly desert roses—and grows them in greenhouses, continuously researching and developing over 60 varieties. “Desert roses” originally grow in desert environments, so like many desert plants, to adapt to the harsh climate, their stems have evolved sponge-like structures to store water. In addition to visiting the greenhouse to learn about desert roses, you can also participate in grafting and take your grafted plant home to cultivate, making this parent-child trip in Lücao, Chiayi, a memory that lasts a lifetime.Xinhe Gardening

Yanshuai Orchid Garden
Zhang Jiazheng, a graduate of the Department of Agronomy at National Chiayi University, named the business after his father’s founded company “Yanshuai Enterprise.” Influenced since childhood by his grandfather, he developed boundless enthusiasm for cultivating and researching orchids. Over a decade of entrepreneurship has taught him that only by developing unique orchid varieties and applying for patents can one carve out a niche in the “brand” market and the “blue ocean” economy.
Surrounded by the elegant fragrance of blooming orchids, you can admire their beauty and rich scent, experiencing the path of moral cultivation like that of a noble person, undeterred by poverty. Zhang Jiazheng’s father, inspired by a divine dream, grows Taiwan red-heart guavas and strawberries using natural, toxin-free farming methods. He believes that what’s left after birds and insects eat is what humans should consume. After years of research, he successfully developed red-heart guava tea, dried strawberries, and dried papayas. Hexing Ecological Farm
There are people who can bring happiness and sweetness to others, no matter what they do. The farm owner used to be a wedding photographer but returned home to care for his aging parents and took over the Hexing Pitaya Orchard. Putting down his camera and picking up a heavy hoe, he insisted on organic farming methods and grew the sweetest “Sweet King” red-flesh pitayas in the country. Though he changed paths, his original goal of bringing sweet flavors to others remained unchanged.
Behind the successful development of every product here, there is always a story — that is, “the man has only one mouth to speak with.” The husband always has wild ideas, and the wife continuously experiments and improves them to meet market demand. It’s hard to imagine that a pack of just over ten pieces of pitaya chips requires three Taiwanese catties of fresh fruit. It’s a specialty souvenir for travelers to Lukcao.
