We’re not fans of crowded places, so we rarely plan long trips during holidays. We usually just take Mintaizi out for a short walk, some snacks, and light meals to keep things simple. That was until we saw on TV news that the “Starry Sky Prairie” had opened to the public. We decided to take Mintaizi there on the last, damp and chilly day of the holiday to admire this beautiful and healing artwork.
Since 2013, when the park created massive landscape art featuring a yellow duck, a hippo, and carnations using 100,000 windmills, it instantly gained fame. When we brought Mintaizi here last year, the crowds were so overwhelming we couldn’t even get into the park.
The park has now created an eco-friendly landscape spanning 13,000 ping, setting a new benchmark for a Guinness World Record.
A simple little information area has been set up using shipping containers, located right next to the parking lot. From afar, Mintaizi shouted, “There are eyes!” — the eyeballs are where the Starry Sky Prairie we’re about to see will be displayed.
The curious kid couldn’t help but ask who this foreigner was.
Here’s a breakdown of 4 million PET bottles in different units to give everyone a better sense of the scale.
Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” is a warm and healing painting loved by both adults and children alike for its vibrant colors.
4 million PET bottles could build over 2,000 Taipei 101s — how amazing is that?!
In the video, Teacher Wang Zhenwei collaborated with the park management to create the dreamlike Starry Sky Prairie, which is truly an innovative feat.
It wasn’t until we actually stepped into the prairie area that the first sight moved us — how much time and labor must have gone into this?
During the PET bottle collection process, they found that most people in Taiwan prefer transparent bottles. To achieve the starry effect, the bottles had to be colored.
The sea of densely packed PET bottles turned into a renowned artwork — it’s not just moving, it’s thrilling, and makes us proud of Taiwan.
Walking down the stairs offers a different viewing angle, and every step is filled with excitement. There’s no need to fly abroad — in Taiwan, we can experience this one-of-a-kind creation. For us, it’s an eternal memory and a lasting treasure. Looking up from below, the bottles resemble a flower carpet, arranged so neatly.
It was raining on the last day of the holiday, and there weren’t as many visitors as expected, which added a touch of laid-back charm. We could stroll slowly, browse shops leisurely, savor desserts, and enjoy the aroma of coffee.
Yongheng has designed the park like a typical tourist attraction, while also paying attention to small details. Though there aren’t many shops, they are quite unique.
The yellow buildings exude a strong European flair, making this an ideal choice for those seeking tranquility and comfort.
The “Starry Sky Bubble House” is another highlight of the park — a brand-new experience we’ll introduce shortly on how to use.
Family travel is all the rage these days, and more parents are traveling with their kids. Everything needs to be planned with the little ones in mind — not just food and drink spots, but also places where kids can play and experience things.
Painting, stamping, sending postcards… all are activities kids can do themselves, taking full charge of their creations. Even adults enjoy it. The handmade goods here are quite unique, and while the kids are busy with activities, adults can kill time browsing too.
For me and Mintaizi, this mom-and-son duo who love photography, the mini photo studio is our favorite. Taking photos here is completely free, and you can stay as long as you like — it’d be a shame not to make the most of it.
For NT$80 (allows two entries), kids can go into the big ball pit, or you can choose to buy bubble water or make cotton candy DIY once to get free entry.
After playing, find a spot to rest, order a drink or some snacks. The café is filled with Van Gogh’s Starry Night paintings, bursting with color — perfect for photos.
The “Starry Sky Prairie Area” mainly serves snacks and light meals, with no noodles or rice dishes — for those, you’ll need to go to the main building. We weren’t really hungry, just a bit peckish and wanted to sit and relax for a bit. The hot dogs were surprisingly delicious, with crispy bread and flavorful spices that whet the appetite. The fries were great too. Plus, the Starry Sky Prairie and Twelve collaborated to launch limited-edition themed cupcakes — as colorful and dreamy as Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I couldn’t resist and bought three.
The café is also very photogenic — even a small corner gave us mother and son plenty of opportunities for selfies.
Now, the much-anticipated “Starry Sky Bubble House” experience is about to begin. First, to enter the “Starry Sky Bubble House,” you need to spend at least NT$300 within the park (based on receipts from the day, which can be cumulative), and each bubble house accommodates up to four people. Generally, when traveling with family or friends, buying souvenirs or having a bite usually makes it easy to reach NT$300.
Since we’ve come all this way, we definitely have to try it out.
Each "Starry Bubble Dome" has its own unique theme. From the outside, doesn’t it look just like a giant light bulb? It also resembles a festive Christmas snow globe!
Bring an invoice worth 300 NTD to the service desk next to the "Starry Bubble Domes" to exchange for one experience session, each lasting 10 minutes.
The bubble domes inflate like balloons, expanding as air fills them. The two doors cannot be opened at the same time, or they will immediately deflate. Inside, it’s soft and very safe, with air circulation maintained, but it’s still not recommended to stay inside for too long. On rainy days like this, you can have some fun without getting wet — not bad. We asked them to take family photos of us both inside and out, but unfortunately, due to the heavy rain, the outdoor shots weren’t very clear. Still, each photo is a memorable one, as it was our family’s first special experience like this.
Ming Taizi was thrilled as soon as he came in, saying it was his campsite and that he wanted to have a picnic and camp here.
Kids just love hiding in small spaces, crawling into any hole they can find — it’s their own secret base. The big bow pillow was so much fun to photograph with — we tried it on as a headpiece, and someone even dressed up as Conan, which was super amusing.
Since we were wearing couple outfits, of course there had to be a scene where the little sweetheart gives flowers!
There weren’t many visitors that day, so they let us stay a bit longer. Ming Taizi was so excited he didn’t want to leave and kept saying he wanted to sleep there.
Then someone asked me to play the role of Ah Hua for a laugh!
The park offers U-Bike rentals for those who want to explore around. Feel free to ask at the counter. The grassland area remains open at night, and when the sheep head lanterns are lit, it must be quite a sight.
The park has grass sleds and also offers a train tour around the grounds, but these services are only available depending on the number of visitors. With low attendance and rainy weather today, neither was open. Once the trial operation phase is over and visitor numbers increase, there should be more opportunities to enjoy these activities!
This was a rare and memorable experience — admiring the beautiful starry sky and grasslands, staying in the bubble domes, all made for a truly vibrant and joyful time.
