Gu Yang Martyrs' Cemetery

The Gu Yang Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural tourism attraction, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Gu Yang County Martyrs' Cemetery is situated to the east of Jinshan Town in Gu Yang County, occupying 50 mu of land, with a construction area of 180 square meters (including the Fourth Cavalry Division Exhibition Hall), and a tower that is 17 meters high. Built with a stone step structure, the tower features a bronze sculpture on its summit—a cavalry soldier with a steel gun on his back, a saber held high, and mounted on a warhorse. The front of the tower bears the gilded inscription “Eternal Glory to the Martyrs,” personally written by the former Vice President of China. Inside the memorial tower are the remains and memorial plaques of 147 martyrs from the Fourth Cavalry Division of the Inner Mongolia Cavalry who sacrificed their lives during the liberation of western Inner Mongolia, as well as 108 deceased soldiers. These brave individuals died in areas including Da Mao, Wu Chuan, Si Zi Wang Qi, Wu Zhong Qi, Gu Yang, Tu You Qi, Shang Du, and Xing He.

To commemorate revolutionary martyrs and promote patriotism, in 2006, as part of the small town renovation project, the cemetery environment and the exhibition hall dedicated to the deeds of the Fourth Cavalry Division martyrs were expanded and upgraded. After the renovation, the cemetery now receives thousands of students and members of the public and various groups each year who come to pay tribute to the revolutionary martyrs and receive patriotic and moral education. In 1993, the Gu Yang County Martyrs' Cemetery was designated as a protected revolutionary martyrs’ memorial building at the autonomous region level by the Civil Affairs Department of the Autonomous Region.
