Shajiao Fort

Ancient battlefield site of the Opium War. Located on Shajiao Hill at the Humen Estuary, it was first built in the fifth year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1801). During the Opium War, Shajiao Fort and Dajiao Fort formed the first line of defense at the Humen Estuary and were hailed as the “first gateway to Guangdong’s seas.” Major attractions currently open to the public include: Shajiao Tobacco Surrender Wharf Plaza, Coastal Battery, Linggao Battery, Martyrs’ Tomb, Statues of the Horse That Died of Grief and General Chen Liansheng, Fishing Battery, Meritorious Cannon, and Lin Zexu Monument.

Transportation: Located on Shajiao Hill at the Humen Estuary. In Humen Town, you can take Bus No. 1 or a minibus to the Shajiao Troops stop and get off right in front.

IV. Visitors must obtain tickets to enter. Please queue up at the ticket collection counter with a valid ID (ID card, student card, military ID, residence permit, senior citizen card, driver’s license, etc.). One person, one ID, one ticket (children under 1.4 meters may enter free of charge; seniors, military personnel, people with disabilities, and pregnant women have priority for ticket collection). Groups must make advance reservations and present valid supporting documents to receive visit tickets.

V. Visit tickets are valid only for the day and the specific visit session. Expired tickets will be void. A maximum of 4,000 free visit tickets are issued to the public each day, and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis until quotas are reached.

VI. Maintain environmental cleanliness within the site. Take care of cultural relics, exhibits, exhibition facilities, and other public service facilities. Any damage must be compensated for at cost, and legal liability may apply. All uncivilized behavior is prohibited.

VII. Children, visitors with mobility difficulties, or those with medical conditions must be accompanied by family members. Individuals who are improperly dressed, intoxicated, mentally unstable, carrying flammable/explosive/dangerous items, or bringing pets are not permitted entry.

VIII. Bringing fire sources up the mountain is strictly prohibited. Barbecuing, smoking, or setting off fireworks and firecrackers on the mountain is not allowed. Those causing accidents will be held legally responsible.

IX. When visiting Shajiao Fort, climbing or crossing restricted areas is strictly forbidden. Beware of dangers such as thunderstorms and snakes/insects.
