Dongguan Shilong Zhongshan Park

Dongguan Shilong Zhongshan Park is located in the old town center of Shilong, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. It was first built in 1924 and renovated in October 2003. During the Great Revolution, Shilong Town once served as the headquarters of the Eastern Expeditionary Army. From May to November 1923, in the campaign against the warlord Chen Jiongming who occupied Huizhou, Sun Yat-sen personally visited the Shilong front line fourteen times to direct the battles, as evidenced by historical photos of Sun Yat-sen at the railway front. To commemorate Sun Yat-sen’s Eastern Expedition and honor his great achievements, the People’s Government of Shilong Town renamed Shilong Park to Zhongshan Park. The park covers an area of over three acres, surrounded by rivers and dotted with pavilions and rockeries. At the main entrance of the park stands a glazed-tile gatehouse, with the large characters “Zhongshan Park” inscribed by the famous calligrapher Qin Esheng. Inside the park are cultural and historical landmarks such as a speech platform, the Li Wenfu Memorial Pavilion, the Mo Gongbi Memorial Monument, the Arch of Triumph, the Haoying Pavilion, the Zhongyi Pavilion, and the Statue of the Hometown of Weightlifting.

Dongguan Chang’an Zhongshan Park

Dongguan Chang’an Zhongshan Park is located beside the Shangsha Village section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Highway in Chang’an Town, Dongguan City. It was built by the people of Chang’an Town to commemorate the great achievements of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. There is a belief that Sun Yat-sen’s ancestral lineage originated from Shangsha Village, where his ancestors once settled, hence the Sun Clan Ancestral Hall in the village and the tomb of Sun Yat-sen’s third-generation ancestor are closely related to him.

At the main entrance of the park stands a grand relief sculpture of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Some believe that within the grounds of Dongguan Zhongshan Park lies the tomb of Sun Yat-sen’s third-generation ancestor. This ancient tomb was built during the Ming Dynasty. Backed by a mountain ridge shaped like a triangular flag and facing the Lion Sea estuary, the feng shui of this burial site is considered excellent. Descendants of the Sun family travel from afar across the Pearl River to conduct worship ceremonies here during the spring and autumn memorial rites.

Sun Yat-sen (1866–1925), whose given name was Wen, courtesy name Zaizhi, also known as Risshin and Yixian, with the childhood name Dixiang and alias Zhongshan Qiao, often used the name Zhongshan.
