Rongyang Academy

Rongyang Academy is located in Xinwei Village (its former site was where the current Xinwei Cultural Activity Center stands). Built in the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty, it was as renowned as Dongguan’s Bao’an Academy and Shilong’s Longxi Academy. Covering an area of

over 600 square meters, the academy is quite sizable, featuring Lingnan architectural style with three courtyards and two side wings. It boasts an elegant environment, housing study rooms and a meeting hall, and served as a place for members of the Ye clan to pursue their studies and seek scholarly honors. In 1998, due to years of disrepair, the academy was demolished and rebuilt as the Xinwei Cultural Activity Center. The new center includes a cinema, library, table tennis room, and fitness room for villagers to engage in cultural learning and physical exercise. The original site still preserves the “Rongyang Academy” plaque.

Xinwei Village: Located in the northwest of Shilong Town, Dongguan City, Xinwei Village in Shilong Town was established in the mid-Qing Dynasty. A marker commemorating the founding of Xinwei Village was erected in the 1850s (Year of You in the Xianfeng reign). The village currently has a population of over 540 residents, about 154 households, covering an area of 0.57 square kilometers. Due to geographical factors, it is divided into Upper and Lower Xinwei by the Guangzhou–Shenzhen Railway line, but they belong to the same village committee without separate villager groups.
