The Lin Clan Ancestral Hall is located in Linwu Village, Shilong Town. Built around the late Song and early Yuan dynasties, it has a history of nearly 700 years. It stands as a landmark building commemorating the migration of the Lin family from Puyang in Fujian to Nanxiong in Guangdong, and then to Shilong in Dongguan. Originally named Cunzhu Hall, the ancestral hall covers an area of 1,230 square meters and features the traditional architectural style of ancestral halls in Lingnan. It is built with bricks and tiles, consisting of four main structures, with two original ones serving as inner and outer gun platforms. The second structure features the “Nine Clans’ Fragrant Legacy” memorial archway, commemorating the nine sons of the Lin ancestor, Shanle Gong, all of whom held the official title of “Jiuzhou Prefect.” Below the archway is a screen door, usually kept closed and only opened to welcome high-ranking officials from the capital or provincial government. There are also two rows of stables for resting the horses of officials from the capital or other regions. Between the second and third structures lies a central courtyard, flanked by two drum towers on either side. During joyous celebrations or when receiving visiting officials, drums and gongs would be played. The third structure bears the plaque “Chonzhu Chongdi” (Storehouse of Heritage). The central hall is used for clan celebrations (such as weddings and coming-of-age ceremonies) and meetings. Two study rooms are located on both sides, intended for Lin clan members preparing for imperial examinations in the capital. Legend has it that beneath the main hall lies the layout of “Seven Stars Accompanying the Moon,” and digging there long ago indeed revealed seven large empty sand jars. Due to years of neglect, wars, and floods, the ancestral hall has undergone multiple renovations. Records show a major restoration during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era, with the most recent renovation taking place in 1998.

Linwu Village: Linwu Village in Shilong Town has a long-established history. Since the late Song and early Yuan dynasties, the Lin family migrated from Puyang in Fujian to Nanxiong in Guangdong and then to Shilong in Dongguan, with a history of nearly 700 years. The village is located in the southeastern part of Shilong Town’s old urban area, facing Huangzhou and Xihu districts across the river. It covers a total area of approximately 0.68 square kilometers, with a current resident population of over 640 and a migrant population of over 1,200.
