The Temple of Kṣitigarbha was originally called Longxi Temple and was located in Puxi. In the early years of the Republic of China, it was renamed Longxi Temple and enshrined Buddhist statues. The exact time when Longxi Temple was first built cannot be confirmed. Later generations only found the inscription “Rebuilt in the 29th year of the Guangxu Emperor” on the temple beams, which confirms that it had been built before the 29th year of Guangxu (1904 AD). Up until before the liberation, the temple still had monks in residence. The temple enjoyed considerable incense popularity, and during the War of Resistance against Japan, more than ten monks were invited from various places to conduct three “Ten Thousand People’s Vows” ceremonies, gaining a certain level of influence in the Dongguan, Boluo, and Zengcheng areas.
