Ying’en Gate

Ying’en Gate is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The Ying’en City Tower in Guancheng (commonly known as the West City Tower), located at the intersection of Xizheng Road in Guancheng. Built in the 17th year of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty (1384), it is an iconic ancient structure in Guancheng with a history of over 600 years. Along with the East Gate Héyáng, South Gate Chóngdé, and North Gate Zhènhǎi, all constructed during the Hongwu era, it is a key cultural relic protection unit of Dongguan. The tower is 16 meters tall, 126 meters wide, and 14 meters thick; the rooftop features a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof construction, supported by 36 large columns, with red walls, green tiles, painted beams, colorful pillars, flying eaves, and bracket sets, presenting a majestic and spectacular sight. Below the tower is an arched passageway. During renovations in the 1960s, the original single passage with two gates was changed to three passages without gates, to accommodate traffic needs.

After centuries of wind and rain, the Ying’en City Tower still stands firmly, proud and majestic. Against the backdrop of the Xicheng Tower Cultural Square and nearby modern high-rise buildings, it exudes a unique charm of deep historical significance and rich cultural connotation.
