Ouxian Temple

Ouxian Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Ouxian Temple is a municipal-level cultural heritage site, located within the former Huangjia Mountain Primary School in Shilong. It was originally built in the fifth year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1740) and renovated in the tenth year of the Guangxu reign (1889). The existing structures are made of polished blue bricks, feature cement roofs, and are designed as Western-style bungalows. Ouxian, whose courtesy name was Dongming, was a native of Huangjia Mountain and lived during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. In his youth, he once went to Mount Luofu to study Taoism under the tutelage of Huang Yeren. In his later years, he returned to his hometown, bought a boat, fished, and also ferried people across the water. Later, there was a legend that one night, a Taoist priest helped him attain enlightenment and become immortal. Because this man was kind-hearted and generous, the story was widely celebrated among the local villagers. To commemorate him, the villagers selected a serene spot near a temple in the countryside, pooled funds to build a shrine, and named it “Ou Gong Shrine.”
