The Li Clan Ancestral Hall and Ancient Architectural Complex in Dongguan is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Li Clan Ancestral Hall is located in Huangchong Village, Zhongtang Town. It was first built during the Southern Song Dynasty to commemorate a particularly filial member of the Li family at the time. His mother fell gravely ill, so he cut a piece of his own flesh to mix with medicine, which cured her illness. This act became a widely told story of filial piety. The county government reported the deed to the imperial court, which bestowed an honorific plaque on the family and granted permission to build the ancestral hall.

The ancestral hall features a three-courtyard layout with two skywells, designed as a quadrangle compound. It has a front platform, side wing rooms, and a total of 15 rooms on the east and west sides, covering an area of over 1,000 square meters. It is one of the largest existing ancestral halls in Dongguan. The main building adopts the famous Lingnan-style flush-gable roof, with a mixed beam-frame structure of raised beams and through-tenons. Inside, the shrine preserves stelae inscribed with writings from renowned figures of the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties: a Song Dynasty scholar-official, a Yuan Dynasty court official, a Ming Dynasty director of the Imperial College, as well as a censor and an academician of the Hanlin Academy — all notable personalities from Dongguan. These artifacts serve as important historical evidence for studying the cultural development of Dongguan.

The ancestral hall was destroyed by fire during military conflicts in the Dezong era of the Southern Song Dynasty, rebuilt in the Yuan Dynasty, and then burned down again at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. It was reconstructed during the Ming Dynasty, burnt once more by Japanese forces during the War of Resistance against Japan, and later restored again. It stands as a significant cultural relic that has witnessed the turbulent history of China.

Huangchong Village: Introduction to Huangchong Village

Huangchong Village is located in the northern part of Dongguan City, covering an area of approximately 7 square kilometers. It consists of four natural villages, 27 villager groups, with an agricultural household population of over 9,000, a migrant population of over 15,000, and a resident population of around 10,000. The village operates under a Party committee system, which includes seven rural party branches and one joint branch for foreign-funded enterprises, with a total of 262 party members.
