The Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall of Guangdong is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall of Guangdong is located in Dawangling Village, Dalingshan Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. It is a thematic memorial hall showcasing the history of the Dongjiang Column, the anti-Japanese guerrilla force of the Guangdong people, and is the fourth batch of National Youth Education Bases. Accessible via the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway and National Highway 107 turning onto Hou-Da Road, it is about 15 kilometers from downtown Dongguan. It consists of two parts: the sixth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level—the Site of the Former Dawangling Anti-Japanese Base, and the Dongjiang Column-themed exhibition.

In October 1940, one of the predecessors of the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force—the Third Battalion of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force—advanced into the Dalingshan area of Dongguan, established its leadership headquarters in Dawangling Village, and created the Dawangling Anti-Japanese Base. They carried out guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines, achieved victory in the Baihuadong Battle, crushed the “Ten-Thousand-Man Mopping-Up” operation by Japanese and puppet troops, dealt a heavy blow to the enemy forces, and effectively supported the anti-Japanese war efforts in South China and across the nation.

The Dawangling Anti-Japanese Base was one of the birthplaces and key operational areas of the Dongjiang Column. It was an important part of the Dongjiang Anti-Japanese Base and a major battlefield in the enemy’s rear during the South China resistance. Nine historical sites remain today: the headquarters and meeting room of the Third Battalion of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force, the Da Jia Tuan Jie newspaper office, communication stations, grain processing facilities, a drill ground, a medical station, Zhongshan Academy, and the Lianping Lianxiang Office of the Dawangling Anti-Japanese Democratic Regime. Their restored displays are based on the original appearance of the sites during the wartime period, using local revolutionary and folk artifacts to recreate the scenes.

The exhibition hall is adjacent to the former anti-Japanese sites in Dawangling Village. The site covers an area of 53,319 square meters, with an exhibition area of nearly 2,000 square meters. The main building features the architectural style of a Lingnan Hakka village from the wartime period. The thematic exhibits closely follow the historical background of the global anti-fascist war, the Chinese War of Resistance against Japan, and the Liberation War. Using modern audio-visual display technologies such as holographic imaging, electronic sand tables, and simulated environments, integrated with regional artistic elements, the exhibits systematically showcase the glorious history of the Dongjiang Column’s fierce fight for national liberation.

The hall also houses temporary exhibition rooms, a lecture hall, and an observation deck on the rooftop, offering views of the former anti-Japanese sites in Dawangling Village, the Baihuadong battlefield, and the new look of Dalingshan Town.

The Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall of Guangdong makes full use of its humanistic and geographical advantages. By continuously improving hardware facilities and enhancing cultural content, it promotes in-depth development of patriotic education. After years of construction, the memorial has developed a comprehensive exhibition system that includes thematic exhibitions, restored historical site displays, national defense science education, simulated battlefields, temporary exhibitions, mobile exhibitions, and an online memorial. At the same time, it has built a diversified educational platform with the goals of supporting high-quality activities, deepening the outcomes of patriotic education, and advancing the continuous development of red cultural tourism. Successful initiatives include premium educational programs like the “Dongyue Little Soldiers” Red Summer Camp.
