Introduction to the Attraction

Xiabafang belongs to Batou Community in Wanjiang District, Dongguan City. The area is located at the junction of Batou Community, Wanjiang, Nancheng, and Guancheng, and falls within the planning scope of Dongguan Central Ecological Leisure Area and Dongguan Central Business District, covering an area of approximately 0.7 square kilometers. Xiabafang is a famous historical and cultural village in Guangdong Province and also a lifestyle district that combines creativity, design, leisure, and art. It is known by titles such as "Dongguan's Tianzifang," "Dongguan's Gulangyu," and "Dongguan's 798."

The district gathers the cultural essence of Nantou Community, well preserving ancient buildings such as the Zhan Ancestral Hall and the Shao Guang Zhan Public Hall, as well as the layout of Lingnan water villages from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is one of the more intact villages preserving Lingnan water town culture in the Pearl River Delta region and is hailed as Dongguan’s “Lingnan Water Town Culture Pan-Museum.”

Batou has preserved a wooden golden plaque from the Ming Hongwu era inscribed with “By Imperial Decree Honoring the Renowned Minister of the County,” one Zhangwang Temple, one ancient ferry terminal, three fengshui ponds, three earth god temples, one bluestone flagpole stand, one stone inscription, seven national third-grade ancient trees, as well as over 270 residential buildings constructed between the Qing Dynasty and the 1980s. In addition to the well-preserved traditional architecture, Batou also carries on Lingnan traditional customs. Traditional Lingnan folk activities such as ancestor worship during Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and New Year’s Eve gatherings have been continuously preserved.

Wanjiang District actively explores the traditional cultural resources of Xiabafang to create a cultural, leisure, and creative district, making it a cultural and leisure hotspot for white-collar workers and artistic youth in Dongguan.

Shao Guang Zhan Public Hall

Shao Guang Zhan Public Hall, located in Xiannan Community, Wanjiang Subdistrict, was built in the 20th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1894) and was renovated in 1988 and 2007. It is a temple-style building historically used for religious purposes. It faces east and features a layout of three bays, three courtyards, and four connected corridors. The overall structure of the hall is intact, largely maintaining its original appearance. Constructed with brick and wood in a traditional Lingnan architectural style, it includes valuable elements such as the entrance gate, podium, plaster sculptures, and wood carvings.

The former site of Xiabafang Brigade Headquarters, located at No. 29 Xiannanfang, Wanjiang Subdistrict, was built between 1950 and 1978. It serves as a commemorative site for a historical event or institution, historically used for residential purposes. Built with a reinforced concrete frame, the architectural style is a blend of Chinese and Western elements, featuring valuable factors such as Western-style pediments.

Route 1: Take bus 11 (Jinqiao Market – Luochong), bus 21 (Dongcheng Science Park – Hanlin School), bus 25 (City Bus Terminal – Liuhua Bus Station), or bus 29 (City Bus Terminal – Guancheng Science Park South) to Batou Xincun Station. Walk about 380 meters to reach Batou Village, where various well-known shops are located nearby.

Route 2: Take bus 11, 25, or 29 to Batou Cunwei Station. Walk about 200 meters forward, then turn right. When you see the Batou Police Office on your right, continue forward until you reach the Xiabafang address sign, then head downhill.
