The Site of the Old Haikou Battery at Shajiao is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Site of the Old Haikou Battery at Shajiao is located within the Shajiao Fort in Shajiao Community, Humen Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. Situated on the eastern bank of the Pearl River estuary, it was reconstructed in 1885 (the 11th year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty) on the ruins of the former Shajiao Fort. Facing west and covering an area of approximately 10,140 square meters, the site has three circular open-air gun emplacements made of cement, sandstone, and concrete, each with a diameter of about 10 meters. The emplacements are connected by underground passages at the rear, and a command post wall equipped with gun loopholes and crenellations is built above them. In front of the emplacements is a parapet wall also fitted with gun loopholes. In front of the Haikou Battery lies the Tobacco Surrender Wharf, paved with granite slabs and shaped like a triangle. On the wharf stands a memorial monument dedicated to Lin Zexu, a Krupp cannon produced in Germany, and a domestically cast iron cannon from the Daoguang era. The Haikou Battery guards the waterway entrance of the Pearl River and also commands the strategic approach to Taiping Market through Sankoukou. It coordinates strategically with the second line of defense at the Weiyuan Fort. The Site of the Old Haikou Battery at Shajiao serves as an important venue for patriotic education and national defense education, and holds significant value for research on coastal defense facilities during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1982.
