The site of the old Jingyuan Fort is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The site of the old Jingyuan Fort is located on the mountainside of Nanshan in Nanshan Community, south of Humen Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, between the Zhenyuan Fort and the Weiyuan Fort. It was the largest fort among the Humen Forts during the Opium War. Approved for construction in 1839 (the 19th year of the Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty) by Deng Tingzhen and Guan Tianpei, it served as the second line of defense for the Humen Forts, covering a total area of approximately 1,560 square meters. On February 26, 1841, during the Battle of Humen, Guan Tianpei commanded the defense from the Jingyuan Fort and died a heroic death. The fort fell into British hands and was heavily damaged. It was restored in 1843 but destroyed again by the British in 1856. In the seventh year of the Guangxu reign (1881), it was rebuilt. In the mid-1990s, the construction of the Humen Bridge damaged some gun emplacements and Qing soldiers' barracks. From 1996 to 1997, large-scale repairs were carried out on the open-air gun emplacements and tunnels of the Jingyuan Fort. Today, only three circular open-air gun emplacements, tunnels, three barracks, and the rear wall of the fort remain. There is also a “Boundary Stone of the Rear Wall of Jingyuan Fort,” originally embedded in the rear wall and now housed in the Museum of the Opium War. The site of the old Jingyuan Fort is an important place for patriotic and national defense education, and holds significant value for the study of Ming and Qing coastal defense facilities. It was designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1982.
