Former Site of Shandingying Camp

The Former Site of Shandingying Camp is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Former Site of Shandingying Camp is situated on Nanshan Top in Nanmian Community, Humen Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. It borders the Pearl River to the west and south, faces Snake Head Bay Fort to the northwest, and lies adjacent to Zhenyuan Fort on the west side. Originally constructed in the 23rd year of the Daoguang reign (1843), it was rebuilt in the 9th year of the Guangxu reign (1883) during the comprehensive repair of the Humen Forts. The fort has a square layout, measuring 123 meters in total length and 30 meters in width at the center. It is surrounded by a rammed earth wall equipped with numerous gun loopholes, forming a fortified gun battery. Inside, there were barracks and a training ground, covering an area of approximately 5,490 square meters. On the southwest opening of the surrounding wall stands a Krupp cannon produced in Germany, along with its gun carriage. The cannon is 8.45 meters long and weighs 42,000 jin (approximately 21 metric tons). The Former Site of Shandingying Camp serves as an important venue for patriotic education and national defense education, and holds significant value for the study of coastal defense facilities from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1982.
