Jinao Zhou Pagoda

Jinao Zhou Pagoda is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

The Ming Dynasty Dongguan Jinao Zhou Pagoda is located in Jinao Zhou Village, Wanjiang, Dongguan City. Situated on a riverine islet surrounded by water on three sides, the pagoda has an octagonal floor plan and appears to have nine stories from the outside. It is a pavilion-style brick-and-stone structure. Each level features a waist eave and a flat terrace, with staircases that wind through walls and around terraces. The pagoda stands 50.95 meters tall. It was first built in the 25th year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty (1597) and completed in the 4th year of the Tianqi era (1624). It was renovated during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty up to the fourth level before work was halted halfway. In the 2nd year of the Qianlong era (1737), it was repaired again due to tilting and structural deterioration. Another restoration took place in 1989.

In June 1989, it was designated as a cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.

This is an ancient town that has long served as a key transportation hub and a bustling hub for merchants throughout history.

Located in the central part of Dongguan City, Wanjiang Subdistrict lies in the middle section of the eastern economic corridor of the Pearl River Delta, enjoying a prime geographical position with well-developed water and land transport networks. Covering an area of 50.5 square kilometers, it governs 27 community resident committees, comprising a total of 133 resident groups, with a registered local population of 66,000 and a non-registered migrant population of 103,000.
