Huang Ancestral Hall by the River is a cultural relic protection unit of Dongguan City.

Huang Ancestral Hall by the River is a Chinese ancestral temple structure built in the mid-Ming Dynasty, serving as a place for the Chinese people to worship their ancestors and honor sages. Located at the boundary between Getang and Dawei natural villages in Jiangbian Village, Qishi Town, Dongguan City, it covers an area of 654 square meters. According to the "Genealogy of the Huang Clan of Jiangbian," the ancestors of the Huang family in Jiangbian migrated southward through many hardships from Jiangxia (present-day Hankou area in Hubei Province) during the Southern Song Dynasty due to war. In the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1522–1560), Huang Xueyi, a descendant of the clan who passed the imperial examination and became an official (rising to the rank of Tongpan in Fuzhou, Jiangxi), proposed the construction of the Huang Ancestral Hall. In the ninth year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1859), Huang Longtao, a clansman, was rewarded by the imperial court for his meritorious service in suppressing the Taiping Rebellion and subsequently oversaw the renovation of the hall. The ancestral hall is five bays wide and three bays deep, featuring a flush-gable roof and a hybrid post-and-lintel and Dougong bracket structure. It follows a symmetrical central-axis layout and a courtyard-style design, supported by 36 stone pillars. The main gate is a Dougong-decorated archway, standing 12 meters in both height and width. The second and third sections each have a skylit courtyard with surrounding corridors, while the third section also includes side chambers on the left and right. The layout is rational, spacious, bright, solemn, and elegant, embodying the characteristics of early architectural culture in the Pearl River Delta region. Inside the hall, there is a pair of couplets inscribed by Hai Rui of the Ming Dynasty (a replica), a plaque on the main gate written by Huang Xueyi, a wooden imperial edict from Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty honoring Huang Longtao as the “Zhenwei General,” as well as a collection of wood carvings, stone carvings, and plaster decorations. These architectural elements showcase exquisite craftsmanship and reflect the outstanding talent and artistic creativity of ancient laborers, holding high artistic value. The Huang Ancestral Hall was renovated in 1992 through fundraising by villagers of Jiangbian, and was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Dongguan City in 1998.
