Dashiling Guanyin Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Dashiling Guanyin Temple is located in the center of the Shidong Scenic Area within the Dashiling Mountain Forest Park in Dongguan. It is the first self-funded and rebuilt temple in Dongguan to date. Adjacent to four towns—Houjie, Humen, Chang’an, and Dashiling—it enjoys an excellent geographical location and convenient transportation.

According to records, Dashiling Guanyin Temple was first built during the Ming Dynasty and has a history of 300 years. The temple was once a place of flourishing incense and produced many eminent monks. However, with the changes of time, the ancient temple was destroyed in wartime. Its predecessor was the Guanyin Ancient Temple, which was originally just a small land god shrine. In 1914, it was converted to worship the Goddess Guanyin. During the Cultural Revolution, the ancient temple fell into disuse. After the reform and opening up, local devotees built several small shrines, but due to lack of maintenance, they became dilapidated and dangerous structures over time.

Around 1991, a Hong Kong resident rebuilt the temple on the original site and erected a statue of the Maitreya Buddha nearby.

Dharma does not arise alone but flourishes when conditions are right. Responses and connections are wondrous and beyond comprehension. In 2001, Master Juewu became the abbot of Guanyin Ancient Temple, renamed it Guanyin Temple, and vowed to revive the ancient site. Facing a situation of disrepair and neglect, Master Juewu started by standardizing management and promoting spiritual practice. Following the teachings, he upheld solemn monastic discipline, built extensive connections, led the community in cultivation, and guided devotees to establish correct knowledge, views, and faith. He led the temple onto a healthy path of legalization, institutionalization, and standardization. With strong support from the local government and devotees, the temple expanded its original grounds to include the Ksitigarbha Hall, Medicine Buddha Hall, Amitabha Hall, and the Five Contemplations Dining Hall.

In 2010, the reconstruction of Guanyin Temple commenced. The overall project plan covers an area of over 100 acres. The temple adopts the hip-and-gable roof style from Qing Dynasty architecture. This style features steep and lofty roofs with gently upturned corners—exquisite, delicate, and imposing. It embodies the majestic grandeur of the hip-and-gable roof style and the charming elegance of the spire roof style. The temple complex includes a Mountain Gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Mahavira Hall, the Guanyin Pavilion, the Dharma Platform, and various side halls.

In 2013, the main hall of the Mahavira Hall was completed, marking a rapid acceleration in the construction of the temple.

In 2016, the reconstruction of Guanyin Temple entered a critical phase. To date, key sections such as the Manjusri Hall, Samantabhadra Hall, Child-Giving Guanyin Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Mahavira Hall, Jade Guanyin Pavilion, and Dharma Hall have been partially completed. The Manjusri Hall, Samantabhadra Hall, Child-Giving Guanyin Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Mahavira Hall, and Jade Guanyin Pavilion are now open to devotees for worship and incense offerings. Currently, interior decoration and the construction of some main halls are underway. It is believed that in the near future, Guanyin Temple will stand proudly in Dashiling in an even better form.
