The Ancestral Hall of the Wang Clan in Zhongkeng is a protected cultural heritage site of Guangdong Province.

The Ancestral Hall of the Wang Clan in Zhongkeng is located in Zhongkeng Village, Shipai Town, Dongguan City. It is one of the best-preserved ancestral halls currently discovered in Shipai. Although it has withstood over five hundred years, this ancient Lingnan building has not aged or lost its vigor. It still stands resolutely before the younger generations of Zhongkeng, telling stories of the fleeting years amid life’s tempests. The Mingde Hall Ancestral Hall of the Wang Clan is also hailed as a masterpiece of Lingnan architectural art.

The Mingde Hall Ancestral Hall of the Wang Clan in Zhongkeng, also known simply as the Zhongkeng Mingde Hall, was first built in the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty. From its initial construction to the present day, it has a history of five hundred years. The existing structure dates back to the early Qing Dynasty, but the overall layout and design of the ancestral hall still follow the Ming Dynasty style. The plaque inscribed with the names of historical figures above the main gate, the exquisitely carved stone door sills beneath it, and some of the simple yet classic stone plinths inside the hall are all original Ming Dynasty artifacts.

From its reconstruction in the Qing Dynasty to the various restorations carried out up to the present, each era has left its mark, creating a clear timeline. Notably, the stone memorial archway bears an inscription dating it to the “14th year of the Jiaqing reign, Mid-Autumn Festival,” making it a building with absolute chronological records. The entire ancestral hall is like a history book written in brick and stone, making it exceptionally precious.

The ancestral hall is five bays wide, with a spacious central courtyard and a grand, majestic scale. The dragon and phoenix plaster carvings on the ridge of the rear hall further indicate that the Wang family of the village once enjoyed a prominent status in history.

Zhongkeng Village: Located in the western part of Shipai Town, Zhongkeng Village covers an area of 3.8 square kilometers. It has a permanent population of over 2,200 people, over 3,000 migrant residents, and more than 6,000 overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao. In 2006, the village had a collective income of 6.96 million yuan and collective assets worth over 84.94 million yuan. There are over 30 industrial enterprises, forming an industrial system primarily focused on furniture, electronics, tires, and hardware. The village is particularly known for its culinary culture, with the fish-cooking techniques of Qiongzhuang Restaurant in Shipai being especially outstanding, winning widespread praise from customers.
