Donghu Temple

Donghu Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Donghu Temple is located in Xinshafang, Beiyu Community, Guancheng District, Dongguan City. Originally built in the sixth year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1667), it was funded by Yin Yuanjin, Vice Minister of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices. The temple faces southeast and is situated to the northwest, originally consisting of three sections, but the rear hall has been destroyed. Only two sections remain, spanning 15.5 meters in width and 31.3 meters in depth. It features a flush gable roof, a gable in the shape of an inverted “V”, grey plaster dragon boat-shaped ridges, green glazed roof tiles with lotus petal patterns, and drip tiles. The walls are made of blue bricks, while the plinth, door frames, columns, and column bases are constructed from red sandstone. The structure combines both raised-beam and through-tenon styles. The front section contains a screen partition gate, while the rear section houses four round wooden pillars supported by bracket sets and raised beams. Originally, there was a large lake called Donghu in front of the temple, which was connected to the Dong River, with the Northwan Nunnery and Ru Nunnery built on either side, and the Jade Emperor Tower on the southern shore of the lake—none of which exist today. In 1958, Donghu Temple was converted into a home for the elderly.

Beiyu Community: Located in the northeast of Guancheng Subdistrict, Dongguan, Beiyu Community is bordered by Hongchuan Road to the east, adjacent to Lilichuan Community of Guancheng District; by the Guancheng Canal to the south; by Zhenhua Road and Daxi Road to the west, connecting to Xiyu Community; and by the scenic Dongjiang River to the north. The community covers an area of approximately 2 square kilometers. There are 7,229 registered household registrations in the community, with a total registered population of 28,282 people and about 5,360 temporary residents. Public service facilities within the community are well-equipped, including hospitals, kindergartens, elderly care homes, leisure parks, and cultural exhibition halls.
