Guancheng Baogong Shrine

The Guancheng Baogong Shrine is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Baogong Shrine is located on the campus of the North District of Dongguan Middle School in the Guancheng District of Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. It was built during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty to commemorate the Four Gentlemen—He Kun, Fang Wenbing, Chen Long’an, and Chen Rongguang—who overcame great hardships to reclaim tens of thousands of hectares of sandy farmland. The shrine was destroyed by Japanese forces during the War of Resistance against Japan and was rebuilt on the original site in 1946. The Baogong Shrine is a two-story reinforced concrete building, facing south, with a beige exterior wall. It is 11.4 meters wide and 11.9 meters deep. The main gate is inlaid with a marble plaque inscribed with the three characters “Baogong Shrine” (Baogong Ci), and the sides feature a marble couplet inscribed with “Ancient virtues honored in this temple through the ages; Lasting benevolence preserved over ten thousand hectares of sand.” It currently serves as the teachers’ office for Dongguan Middle School.
