Songgang Bowl Kiln Site

The Songgang Bowl Kiln Site is a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

The Songgang Bowl Kiln Site is located about 500 meters southeast of Dakeng Reservoir in the northern part of Songgang Village, Qingxi. It preserves relics such as kilns, workshops, washing pools, waste accumulation areas, as well as a large number of porcelain fragments and kiln tools. To further understand the nature and extent of the Songgang Bowl Kiln Site in Qingxi, the Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted a partial survey of the site on June 18, 2010, clarifying the distribution range of the site. Using a total station, they measured remains such as residential areas, makeshift workshops, kiln beds, and clay refining pools. According to archaeological surveys, the Songgang Bowl Kiln Site was a folk kiln that produced daily-use items such as bowls, cups, and plates from the mid-Qing Dynasty to the Republican period. Existing structures include kilns, workshops, washing pools, and waste accumulation areas, and corresponding protective measures have been implemented. The provincial Department of Culture has determined that “the Songgang Bowl Kiln in Qingxi, as a significant outcome of the Third National Cultural Relics Survey, holds important value and meets the criteria for nomination as a major provincial heritage site.”

In 2012, the Guangdong Provincial People's Government designated it as a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.
