The People's Revolutionary Memorial Wall of Machong
The People's Revolutionary Memorial Wall of Machong is located on the north side of the Cultural Square in Machong Town, Dongguan City. It was built in 1999 by the Machong Town Party Committee and Town Government. The wall faces south and is 30 meters long and 4.5 meters high. At its center is a bas-relief depicting the history of revolutionary struggles, while commemorative inscriptions on both sides summarize the revolutionary history of the people of Machong.
After the July 7th Incident in 1937, Communist Party member Mo Fengwan returned to Machong from Guangzhou and successively organized groups such as the “Anti-Insult and Salvation Study Group” and the “Machong Anti-Japanese Salvation Youth Corps,” engaging in anti-Japanese propaganda and fundraising activities. On November 30, 1939, Machong fell to Japanese occupation, and over ten individuals including Mo Xiong subsequently joined the Dongjiang Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Unit. In 1940, Communist Party member Zhu Jinling used teaching as a cover to carry out revolutionary activities in Dabu, and in 1941, he developed seven party members including Zhu Houliang and Xiao Huansheng, establishing the underground Dabu Party Branch, with Zhu Jinling serving as the branch secretary.
In July 1946, Zhu Jinling was appointed as the Instructor of the Dongguan Water Region by the CPC, taking unified leadership over the Party’s work in the water region of Dongguan. After 1947, over 20 individuals including Zhu Yuhui, Zhu Wocheng, and Zhu Chenyi joined the Communist Party, and Party Branches were successively established in Dongrenfang, Zhangpeng, and the Machong area, with a total of more than 100 Party members. In 1948, under the leadership of the Water Region Party Committee, peasant associations were established in Dabu and Zhangpeng. In April of the same year, the Water Region Armed Work Team was formed to assist the peasant associations in opposing the “Three Levies” (conscription, grain levy, and tax levy), reducing rents and interest rates, and eliminating bandits and spies. In 1949, the Dabu Party Branch was succeeded by Zhu Yuhui, who also served as the chairman of the peasant association, leading the association to seize the Kuomintang township government. Zhu Wocheng became the village head. On October 16, Zhu Fuliang was ordered to lead guerrillas in destroying the Machong KMT police station, after which the Water Region Party Committee promptly established the Zhangbu Township People’s Government. On October 17, Dongguan was liberated. On November 9, the People’s Liberation Army entered Machong. From then on, Machong entered a new historical era.
The People's Revolutionary Memorial Wall of Machong attracts numerous visitors every day. Activities such as Party membership oath ceremonies and adult pledge events are also held here, making it an important patriotic education base in Machong Town.
