Shuili Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Shuili Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located at the foot of Changpai Mountain in Shuili Community, Nancheng District, Dongguan City. The monument park covers a total area of approximately 350 square meters and is divided into two levels: the first level is the memorial plaza, with a concrete floor. The monument base stands on the second level, facing south and overlooking the majestic Shuili Mountain. The monument is 6.5 meters high and has a three-dimensional trapezoidal shape, with a reinforced concrete main frame. At the top of the monument stands a bright red five-pointed star, while the front of the monument is inscribed with seven golden characters reading “Revolutionary Martyrs’ Monument.” The body of the monument is encased in white marble. The monument park is surrounded by a railing, with cypress trees planted on both sides. In front of the park lies a lush lychee orchard, and behind it rises Changpai Mountain, covered with verdant and towering pine trees.

During the Anti-Japanese War, the Shuili mountainous area served as one of the guerrilla bases for the activities of the East River Column. The Shuili Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Force and local residents actively supported the East River Column in carrying out guerrilla warfare against the Japanese invaders. During the Liberation War, the local Communist Party organization in Shuili led the people to join forces with the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in waging armed struggle in the Shuili mountains.

During the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, the East River Column and the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column, relying on the support of the people of Shuili, engaged in more than 20 battles of varying scales in the Shuili mountainous region, during which over 30 martyrs sacrificed their lives. In February 1953, the Shuili Brigade erected the Shuili Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument on Dajialing. In May 2000, with funding from the Nancheng District government, the monument was relocated to its current site.

Shuili Community: Shuili Community is located in the southern part of Nancheng District and lies at the central point among three major parks: the Municipal Botanical Garden, Shuili Mountain Forest Park, and Shuili Lake Park. Covering a total area of 6.3 square kilometers, it administers six residential groups: Dayantang, Jiulitan, Laowei, Xihu, Dengwu, and Guatianling, with a permanent population of 1,974 and nearly 3,000 new migrants from outside Dongguan.
