Former Residence of Zhang Ru

The former residence of Zhang Ru is located at the Lüqǐ Tower of Keyuan Garden in Boxia Community, Guancheng Subdistrict. GPS coordinates: 23°02'40.3"N, 113°44'18.3"E, at an elevation of 4 meters.

Keyuan Garden was built by Zhang Jingxiu from Boxia, Dongguan, during the Xianfeng and Tongzhi reigns of the Qing Dynasty, and became one of the Four Famous Gardens of Guangdong Province alongside the Qinghui Garden in Shunde, the Liang Garden in Foshan, and the Yuyin Shanfang in Panyu. It later served as the residence of descendants of the Zhang family. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the garden was nationalized and opened to the public in late 1964. In the 1970s, it was repurposed as the Dongguan County Overseas Chinese Travel Agency. In 1979, it came under the management of the county cultural authorities, leading to the establishment of the Keyuan Management Office. In 1998, it was renamed the Dongguan Keyuan Museum.

Boxia Community: Established on July 1, 2003, Boxia Community in Guancheng was formerly the Boxia Subdistrict Office. It covers an area of approximately 1.2 square kilometers. By the end of 2017, it had 2,547 registered households and a population of 10,063, with most residences being single-family houses.

Located within the old city area, Boxia Community lies in the northwest of Guancheng. It borders Batao Community of Wanjiang District to the north, faces Xiyu Community of Guancheng to the south, and has the Dongjiang River and canal running along its eastern and western edges.
