Low Yong Battle Site

The Low Yong Battle Site is located within the campus of Low Yong Middle School in Gaobu Town. GPS coordinates: 23°05'25.9"N, 113°43'16.2"E, elevation 5 meters.

On September 19, 1944, Xie Yangguang and He Qing led the Third Long Detachment of the Dongjiang Column into the water town of Low Yong to establish an anti-Japanese guerrilla base. The detachment’s headquarters, along with the First Squadron, a special unit, and the propaganda team, were stationed in Low Yong, while the Second Squadron was stationed in Lingwu Village. On the second day after the Third Long Detachment arrived in Low Yong, over 500 local armed forces under Liu Faru, stationed in Gaobu and Daojiao, launched a boat-borne attack from Gaobu toward Low Yong in an attempt to eliminate the newly arrived guerrilla forces. The guerrillas and local residents intercepted the enemy at the head market (now the square within the Low Yong Middle School campus), killing or wounding more than 20 enemies, capturing seven guns, and securing a victory in the battle.

The original site of the Low Yong Battle was located at the burial ground in the head market of Low Yong. In 1960, Low Yong Middle School was built on this site, and the original battlefield became the school’s stage and square. The middle school stage is tall, the square is spacious, surrounded by shady trees, and adjacent to the Gaobu Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, creating a solemn atmosphere. Today, this place has become one of the sites used by Low Yong Village for patriotic education.

Low Yong Village: Low Yong Village is located in the center of Gaobu Town, 1 kilometer from the Gaobu Town government and 5 kilometers from downtown Dongguan. Its land spans both the northern and southern banks of the central river in the town, covering an area of 2.2 square kilometers. To the east and southeast, Low Yong Village borders Xiansha and Lingwu Villages respectively; to the south, it faces Gaobu across the river; to the west, it connects with Xinlian and Zhukan; and to the north, it neighbors Hengjiaotou and Sanlian. The central river and central road of the town run east-west through Low Yong, while Gaolong Road and Santang Road lie to its north and south respectively.
