Tomb of Martyr Li Benli

The Tomb of Martyr Li Benli is located on the east side of West He Road in Hongmei Town, Dongguan City, adjacent to Hongmei Town Central Primary School. In September 1990, it was funded and built by Luo Huixian, the widow of Li Benli. The tomb is 2.4 meters long, 1.5 meters wide, and 1.3 meters high, with a trapezoidal shape formed by four layers of cement and red bricks. In the center of the tomb stands a 0.8-meter-high stone tablet inscribed with six red Chinese characters reading “Tomb of Martyr Li Benli” and embedded with a portrait of Li Benli. The ashes of Martyr Li Benli are laid to rest here. To the left of the tomb is the grave of his parents, and to the right is that of his wife, Luo Huixian. Behind the martyr’s tomb stands a large banyan tree with lush foliage.

Li Benli (1905–1933) was a native of Lizhoujiao, Hongmei, Dongguan. In his youth, he moved with his father to Mingjing Lane in Guancheng (now the sixth lane of West Zheng Road in Guancheng). In 1923, after graduating from the First County High School of Dongguan, he entered Dongguan Middle School. During his time at Dongguan Middle School, influenced by progressive ideas, he joined the Dongguan Special Branch of the Socialist Youth League at the end of 1924 and later became a member of the Communist Party of China. With the help of Mo Cuihua, he established an affiliated organization of the Youth League — the “New Students’ Society.”
