Houjie Revolutionary Martyrs Monument

The Houjie Revolutionary Martyrs Monument is located in Songshan Park on Houjie Avenue, Houjie Town, Dongguan City. It was funded and built by the People's Government of Houjie Town and completed on August 23, 1995. Covering an area of approximately 500 square meters, the monument is column-shaped and stands about 10 meters tall.

During the New Democratic Revolution period, many revolutionaries from Houjie Town sacrificed their lives gloriously for national independence and the liberation of the people. Over 140 martyrs have been recognized by municipal and town civil affairs departments. Among the notable ones are: Wang Tianxi, deputy political instructor of the Bao'an Brigade of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Forces, who was killed in December 1942 during the Battle of Huangtian in Bao'an County and is honored as one of the "Seventeen Heroes of Huangtian"; Li Chengzhang, the militia company commander of Shimashi Village, who died in February 1943 during the anti-"mopping-up" struggle in Dajing, Houjie; Lin Yao, the company commander of the Dongjiang Column, who was killed in autumn 1945 while fighting the Japanese in Bao'an County; Wang Yue'e, a political training office officer of the Hong Kong-Kowloon Brigade of the Dongjiang Column, who died in early 1945 during the anti-"mopping-up" campaign in the guerrilla zone of Lantau Island, Hong Kong; Zhou Kang, the company commander of the Independent Squadron of the First Detachment of the Dongjiang Column, who was killed in April 1945 during battles to establish the anti-Japanese base in the water towns of Dongguan; Lin Chong, the chief of staff of the Sixth Detachment of the Dongjiang Column, who died in spring 1946 while continuing the struggle in the Haifeng-Lufeng region; and Chen Cheng, an operations officer of the First Battalion of the Second Regiment of the Liangguang Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and Ye Deshun, a company political instructor, who were both killed in November 1948 during the Huaihai Campaign. These revolutionary martyrs built an immortal monument with their precious lives.

Houjie Town: Houjie Town was established during the Xuanhe era of Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty (1119–1125 AD), boasting a history of over 800 years. Legend has it that Wang Tai from Putian, Fujian, settled here during his official travels and named the place "Houjie" (Back Street) because it was located behind the "Junpu" (a market for military dependents). Over the dynasties, the population grew, industries flourished, and many talents emerged. The town also earned the name "Houjie" (Thick or Prosperous Street) due to its honest and kind-hearted residents and abundant, prosperous life. Since ancient times, Houjie has enjoyed thriving commerce and rich local produce, with specialties such as Dongguan grass, sausages, and rice noodles being famous both at home and abroad.
