Statue of Wang Zuoyao

The statue of Wang Zuoyao is located in Songshan Park, Houjie Town, Dongguan City. It was erected on July 3, 1996, by the People's Government of Houjie Town. The memorial stone statue is carved from granite. The general is depicted with his right hand on his hip and his left hand resting flat on a battle strategy map. He stands tall with his head held high, gazing confidently into the distance, portraying General Wang Zuoyao’s heroic image as a brilliant strategist and valiant leader.

Wang Zuoyao (1913–1990), originally named Boyao, was a native of Houjie, Dongguan, Guangdong. In 1926, he moved to Guangzhou with his father. In early 1931, he enrolled in the Guangdong Military and Political School (Yantang Military Academy). In October 1935, he joined the Chinese Youth League. In September 1936, he became a member of the Communist Party of China. In October 1938, after the Japanese landing in Daya Bay, he established the Dongguan Anti-Japanese Model Militia Unit and served as its commander. Later, he united with other anti-Japanese forces active in Bao'an, including those led by Zhang Guangye, and reorganized them into the Dongbao-Hui Border People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Brigade, where he was appointed brigade commander.
