The Dongjiang Column Monument Gallery serves as a patriotic education base.

The Dongjiang Column Monument Gallery is situated within Songshan Park on Houjie Avenue, Houjie Town. GPS coordinates: 22°56'41.9"N, 113°39'43"E, at an elevation of 29 meters.

The gallery spans 81 meters and features 21 inscribed stone steles, 4 relief sculptures, and 2 inscribed yellow wax stones. It displays calligraphy inscriptions created by revolutionary leaders from the older generation—including Ye Jianying, Liao Chengzhi, Nie Rongzhen, Xu Xiangqian, Yang Shangkun—and by commanders of the Dongjiang Column in honor of the unit.

In 2006, veteran revolutionaries Wang Yongxiang and his wife proposed constructing the Dongjiang Column Monument Gallery in Songshan Park. The People’s Government of Houjie Town adopted the suggestion, formulated detailed design and implementation plans, and—with active assistance from the Party History Research Office of the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPC—the gallery was completed and opened to the public in May 2009.

Together with the statue of Wang Zuoyao and the Houjie Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, the gallery showcases the glorious history of the Dongjiang Column, the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force, further enriching the educational significance of Houjie Town as a patriotic base.

In April 2008, Songshan Park, where the Dongjiang Column Monument Gallery is located, was designated as a Dongguan Patriotic Education Base by the Dongguan Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee. In April 2010, it was approved by the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPC and established as a Dongguan CPC History Education Base.

Houjie Town: Established during the mid-Xuanhe era of Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty (1119–1125 AD), Houjie Town boasts a history of over 800 years. Legend has it that Wang Tai from Putian, Fujian, settled here during his official travels and named the place “Houjie” (Rear Street) because it was located behind the “Junpu” (a market for military dependents). Over the dynasties, the population grew, industries flourished, and many talents emerged. The area also became known for its honest and kind-hearted people and prosperous life, hence the name “Houjie” (Thick/Prosperous Street). Since ancient times, Houjie has thrived in commerce and been rich in natural resources, with local specialties such as ramie, sausages, and rice noodles enjoying fame both in China and abroad.
