Fuzhushan Battle Site

The Fuzhushan Battle Site is located on Ludouling in Fuzhushan Village, Liaobu Town, with GPS coordinates: 22°58'41.1"N, 113°50'38.5"E, at an elevation of 22 meters.

On June 21, 1949, Li Guiping, the military commissioner, and Liu Hui, the political instructor of the New First Battalion of the Third Regiment of the First Detachment of the Dongjiang Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column, led the Second Company (Huanglong Squad) from Dalingshan along the Guanshan Highway, destroying bridges and cutting telephone lines to mislead the enemy, and stayed overnight in Fuzhushan Village. Around 600 troops from the 14th Regiment of the Guangdong Provincial Security Forces and the County Police Brigade stationed in Liaobu surrounded Fuzhushan Village in the early hours of June 22. Before dawn, the Nationalist forces launched a fierce attack, and the Huanglong Squad fought back hastily. Li Guiping and Liu Hui led two platoons in a breakout, while Deputy Company Commander Long Ruobing led two squads to break through from Dagu Ridge, suffering heavy casualties. The Youth Squad was trapped in the village and fought desperately for three hours. In this breakout battle, the Second Company lost 13 soldiers including Zhang Xiang, Zhu Guoliang, Wu Sheng, and Li Xiang, 6 were captured, several including Platoon Leader Wang Wen were wounded, and they lost one light machine gun and over ten rifles.

In August 1974, the Liaobu Commune built the Fuzhushan Revolutionary Martyrs Monument on the site of the Fuzhushan Battle.
