Qingxi Revolutionary Martyrs Monument

The Qingxi Revolutionary Martyrs Monument is located on Dawo Mountain to the south of Qingxi Town, Dongguan City. The monument stands 9.9 meters tall, with the nine golden characters “Qingxi Revolutionary Martyrs Monument” engraved on the front. The base is 6.5 meters long and 4 meters wide; the front features an inscription detailing the glorious history of the people of Qingxi during their revolutionary struggles in the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, while the other three sides are adorned with large reliefs depicting revolutionary predecessors advancing bravely, charging into battle, and the deep bond between the military and civilians.

During the Anti-Japanese War, the people of Qingxi actively engaged in resistance under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, forming the Qingxi Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Brigade in the summer of 1938. In December of the same year, the Qingxi Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Brigade joined forces with the Shima and Fenggang Tangli Self-Defense Brigades, as well as the Dongguan Militia Reserve Unit and the Dongguan Anti-Japanese Model Militia Unit, to establish the Dongbao-Hui Border People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Brigade. Later, it merged with the Hui-Bao People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Corps to form the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Forces.

Qingxi was one of the areas where the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Forces carried out guerrilla activities east of the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway (referred to as the eastern route). In the spring of 1944, an anti-Japanese democratic township government was established in Qingxi. After April 1945, with Qingxi at its center, the new Third District of the Dongjiang Liberated Area Eastern Route Administrative Committee and the united administrative zone of the new Third and Fourth Districts were established. Following the establishment of the anti-Japanese democratic government, efforts continued to organize militias to support guerrilla combat, delivering more powerful blows to the enemy.

In the summer of 1946, the Kuomintang launched a full-scale civil war. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the people of Qingxi resumed armed struggle and joined forces with the Liberation Army to liberate Qingxi.

During the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, nearly 100 battles of various scales took place in the Qingxi area, with over 70 martyrs. In 1980, the Qingxi Town People's Government built the Qingxi Revolutionary Martyrs Monument on the hillside west of Doufupi Bridge. In July 1998, it was relocated to its current site, with the structure expanded to include the complete list of martyrs and three large additional reliefs. (Qingxi Town Publicity Office)
