The Humen Monument to Anti-Japanese Martyrs and Compatriots Who Died in the War is located at the summit of E’gong Mountain in Zexu Community, Humen Town. GPS coordinates: 22°49'12.1"N, 113°39'43.0"E, elevation 50 meters.

On October 23, 1938, Japanese forces occupied Humen. The military and civilians of Humen upheld the glorious tradition of resisting imperialism and aggression, rose up in defiance, and wrote a moving and heroic chapter in the history of the resistance war in southern China. After the victory of the war, to honor the fallen heroes and commemorate the deceased compatriots, the local government mobilized people from all walks of life in Humen to raise funds for the construction of the “Humen Monument to Anti-Japanese Martyrs and Compatriots Who Died in the War” atop E’gong Mountain. On April 20, 1946, the monument was completed, and over 3,000 people, including 29 groups from Taiping and the garrison stationed in Humen, gathered for the unveiling ceremony and a public memorial service to mourn the soldiers who died in the war and the compatriots who perished. This monument has become a symbol of the indomitable spirit, bloody struggle, and heroic fight of the military and civilians of Humen, as well as a powerful testament to the atrocities committed by the Japanese invaders. In the 1950s, the coastal defense authorities added a circular observation deck atop the monument and installed a steel staircase with more than ten steps on one side to facilitate militia access to the top for sea defense surveillance. Starting in the 1960s, the observation post atop the monument was disbanded, and the observation deck was repurposed as a viewing platform for tourists. Currently, both the observation deck and the steel staircase are in a severely dilapidated state.

The monument faces northwest and is built on three levels, consisting of a base and the main body. The square base has a chamfered square shape, with each side measuring 2.15 meters. The main body is a four-sided pyramid, standing 8.75 meters tall in total (the original monument was 6.35 meters high, with the added observation deck contributing 2.4 meters). It is constructed of cement concrete. Currently, the entire monument is overgrown with shrubs, the surface of the main body has plaster peeling off, and only the characters “Compatriots Memorial Monument” remain visible from the original inscription.
